Hi Boys,

Rod I have seen a HT wagon getting around a while back and there was a HQ sedan on the market a few years back. I still regret not grabbing it.

cheers,

Mick

There appears to be another Bedford in the background which is interesting as I would have said that the only military Bedfords to grace our shores would have been the ones that went up against the Unimog. they would have been S type or similar I would assume. Always open to correction of course. Do we have a date and location for the photo?
Geoff.

OK so the photo is from Tommy, but a crop off a much larger photo, if Tommy can send me the full photo that would be great.

So as per Tommy; taken in 1972 in Singapore.

this one has a little more detail

Singapore, that would explain the Bedfords.

Yeah two things. 1 they definitely had hub caps in service 2. I recon mine are XA hub caps. But maybe the Army swapped then during a service one time???

Quick update for those that are interested in vehicles other than Land Rovers.............

Was able to buy an original canopy and frame a few weeks ago and got to fit it this weekend.

I am not aware of any other XY army ute with a canopy, does anyone know of another??

The hoops where basically NOS I just repainted them, the canopy is used but in very sound condition, I will be able to make a new one off this one using it as the template, put the new one on the vehicle and keep the original in safe storage for posterity!

Apparently there was 60 of these made for the 4 x 4 XY, does anyone know the numbers that went into the army of XY with canopy and XY with tonneau covers?

Anyway here's the pics, pic 1 the hoops, pic 2 canopy fitted, pic 3 old school roof racks..........

Enjoy
Scott

Looking good Scott,

Now you will be able to get more stuff in next year coming home from Corowa.....

Very nice to see the XY reunited with the canopy.

What is the story with the roof racks?

I think you'll find its an RL Bedford.

The RL was a 4WD version used primarily by the British Army, the S were a mainly 4X2 etc with lower chassis height used mainly in the civilian market but they did share many design elements in the cab.
