as long as you keep the ones that it has clean you will not have a problem

303gunner and Mick had just convinced me not to bother with double filters for bio with their posts, FFRman is now trying to change my mind back to dual filters now,  I like the dual filters.   I'm confused maybe I will do one fuel tank each way and hedge my bets.

Mick  your comments make sense, I will likely stick with one filter, but it seems you are also saying I should only do one granny knot on my tarp not the current 35 and that cant be right.
Do you have a problem?
If the answer is yes, Define the problem.

Say, for example, the problem is "Batter clogs my pump.", then the solution may be putting some gauze on the fuel pickup. This will solve the batter problem but now has introduced a maintenance point. When the fuel system now becomes clogged, you have to check that.

Now, the next problem is "Sediments clog the injectors." So, lets add a filter as well. Now when the fuel system becomes clogged there are two maintenance points to check.

So, now we think more is better so we add another half dozen 10 micron filters into the system. The first filter will filter down to 10 micron and the other filters are filtering filtered fuel. Pointless.

So, think of the problem and the system.

My Perentie has the sedimenter at the tank, the gauze at the pump, and the filter at the injectors (a dual circuit it looks like).

There is a problem that the gauze at the pump clogs and is a bastard to maintain (or so I am reading). Replacing the sedimenter with a sedimenter/filter will render the gauze at the pump obsolete. I shouldn't have to maintain it as filtered fuel should not clog the gauze. I don't know whether it will render the filter at the injectors obsolete or not. Further research is required.

If I run the dual system that Scott has put up, first filter 10 micron, second filter 5 micron, I'll get really clean fuel. If I run a single 5 micron, the fuel will be just as clean, I may have to replace the filter a little more often though. I think I'll run with the single 10 micron and leave the Isuzu filter at the injectors in place. See how that goes for a while.

Oh, what Stephen says is good advice.

Don't know. Never looked at it.
Things I have read suggest access is a bit of an issue.

No idea. The Isuzu p/n is 8-97172549-1

I read on a Cummins document that a 25 micron filter upstream will increase the service life of a 5 micron fuel filter by up to three years.

Now, I am assuming the fuel sedimenters that currently exist on the Perenties are just sedimenters. No filtration. Is that right?

I see Delphi do several types of their filter assemblies, Metal bowl, glass bowl or glass bowl with metal base, I am leaning towards the glass bowl with metal base for running bio as I will be able to see when any foreign matter/water needs removing through the glass but it will be easier to put a removable cover on the sides to protect it from stones under the vehicle, while not interfering with the water drain.

i've noted that some owners see the glass bowl as being in a vulnerable location, personally I think it would be sufficiently robust.

I wouldn't have said "vulnerable". It is, however, in a position where it would be subject to sandblasting. At times it is a little difficult to see detail through frosted glass or plastic.

Well, after about a month of owning her and doing a bit of work to get her up to scratch, she went on her first trip out to south western Queensland which was 1500kms return.

Love how well the car felt over a long distance and didn't have a sore back at all after jumping out! Pulled in to fuel up at St George and some of  the Rockhampton battalion pulled in behind right behind me!! Made for a few good snaps. Will post photos later

Cheers, Jake

Well you didn't plan that too well, did you? Next time, pull up for fuel in the middle, you might score a free top-up if the pump jockey doesn't look at your plates!  ::)
