Not today, but yesterday and not my perentie, but lmurko's http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=773.  Yesterday on the Hume highway near St Andrews, was test driving an SIIa and it was having a dead spot in accelleration, the dead spot kept growning until the vehicle completely died and would not run.

The fuel guage was reading 1/2 so thought it had to be either the new coil had just failed or fuel pump or both.  Sitting in the dead lane/cycle lane with the bonnet up, what should pull in behind,  A 110 Topographical Survey driven by lmurko, who couldn't drive past a dead Landy.  Even towed the vehicle off the motorway to somewhere safe.

A BIG thanks Lachlan!

How stupid did I feel when it turned out the fuel guage was stuck at half on an empty tank with the other tank still with fuel!

It's an English car thing. Never trust the fuel guages.
In my Stage 1, when full it reads 1/4. As I use it, the tank fills. When it reaches full, I have about 50km left in the tank.
I'm used to it now so there is no reason to fix it.
In the 101, when the guage reads 1/4 full, it's got about 20l in it it cannot pick up. I'd like to fix that.

Oh, and on the Perentie, the first 20l drops the guage to 1/4 full. I don't know what the next 70l does, yet.

With the regular Series tanks you can adjust the reading by bending the float lever in the tank to correct the error.  (However the first thing to check is that the float is not partially full of fuel.)

Not 100% sure on the 101, but you can also adjust the pick up tube by bending it down to just above the bottom (you always want to leave a little of space for the crud and grime to accumulate).  If the pick-up doesn't have a bend, you need to lengthen the tube by brazing on an extension (in the middle so you leave the gauze mesh intact.

I did make the error, or at least have an unfortunate incident in the FFR, I didn't know how accurate the guage was, so with a full jerry can on the rear I decided to do the endurance thing on the way back from Corowa.  At Phesants Nest there was about 1/4 tank and the next station on my run was at Arncliffe after the M5 East tunnel, at King Georges Road the guage showed the needle just hitting the zero line, so I chickened out running the tunnel on empty and exited.  Good thing too as the fuel ran out in the middle of the King Georges Road intersection.  Yesterday's was unfortunate because the vehicle had just had the coil replaced and the carby had been re-jetted, so I assumed it must have been a fault in one of those items.  But as usual, I should have gone back to first principles, fuel, spark etc.

I had a very Perentie day yesterday...

It started with pulling up at the traffic lights, bloke from the car in front comes running to my window excitedly, shaking my hand enthusiastically, asking if I owned it, if it was a real army one, and where could he buy one :D

Heading down the M7 a pair of 110s with number 5s were heading the opposite direction, driver of the first 110, in camo garb, gave a big wave :)

Finally, whilst helping load a year old jeep onto a flatbed to go to a mechanic, the towy asked what I had under the bonnet, as I apparently 'flew' past him up a hill, and his son has a few Perenties from the auctions and reckons none of them move that quickly  ;D

Now I wonder if my County actually is a slug or if my Perentie really is a rocket ship haha

Personally, I am outraged that someone should have e cigarettes in an ADF vehicle!
Smoking a .50BMG is one thing but smoking tobacco! That is just plain dangerous!!

 ;) ;D

And a lovely day it was with beautiful weather and good company.

Hello all. The centre box is just made from chipboard, painted white to seal the chips and left over vinyl from a series 3 seat recovering job.
I used spray glue for the vinyl and put some foam on the lid then covered it [ makes a good arm rest ] The metal plate holding the radio, cig, lighter for USB plugs and a switch for strip lights in the cargo bay is a piece of stainless steel sprayed black. In the box i have a cooler bag
for freezer blocks to keep any drinks cold, i also store Navman and on board camera in the box which has a simple series 3 seat box latch.
regards Jim.

Finally got round to fitting the Wolf Haz kit properly, had to loosen the rack and the boat racks, and fiddle with the bit behind the spare wheels, but very happy with it, and so much warmer, and less noise.

Still chilly around here but I think the worst of the winter is over.... but good to have some firewood in stock.

The Perentie and the Haulmark do an excellent job when tasked to haul firewood - so thats what it (they) did today !

(I think the GVM of the Haulmark would have been well tested)
