Interior roof staps - quick fix
« on: June 05, 2016, 07:30:27 AM »
Hi, not sure if any of you have this problem, but I've found the straps attached to the canvas not very pliable and quite stiff and combine that with the existing plastic buckles, rather hard to put tension on, particularly if you only have a veeeery short end to play with, which is exactly my problem up in the canvas at the front.

This is how my straps looked and damned if I can get an easy purchase to tighten it up and take the slack out of that sucker...

A quick trip to a marine shop (and possibly available at a hardware or specialty store too) found that the straps on the Perentie were standard size to those available off the shelf at the store.
There are several configurations you can buy and the quickest and simplest was this open ended male/female clip connected with a couple of meters of strap on one end that could be simply cut off and heat sealed on the end, giving me a chance to pull the old strap through further and now being able to control adjustment of the roof tension.

Hope this has helped someone...

Thanks dugite, I'm sure there are a lot better ways than mine, it's just that we don't have a Robco here and I was getting tired of not being able to join one of the straps (it came dangling), so a quick fix until I can buy the original or whatever, is better than nothing and it was cheap and easy to do (;->

Nothing wrong with what you've done alvin if it does the job for you 😊,

it is just that those who have the same problem and read your alternative solution may not realise that original manufacturer's replacement components are readily available 😊

The problem with the length of the item has been remarked on by others and I understand that Robco have modified it to take account of this - my post was to add info for those who search for info - not to criticise your alternative.

Anyone ordering them should specify extra length

Ah no problems there dugite and no offence taken.
These forums are a repository of much wisdom and sometimes you need to put something out there to  learn that it can be done even better (;->

Many a time I've gone looking for some past knowledge, but it can end up a bit buried until someone puts you on the right track.

Cheers, Alvin
