As far as I know such vehicles were never used to haul trailers, certainly not in the Vietnam era.

Hi Scott,

I never saw any army Utes/ station wagons with a tow bar back in the XB , XF , era. Same, same with the Commodore, Valiants, Nissan Bluebirds. I reckon if you hooked a trailer up to a Bluebird you wouldn't be going anywhere.

The XY would look smart with a matching trailer - pity 😩

Cheers Mate,

Mick

Thanks Mick & Geoff,

The tow bar on it now must have been put on there by the first owner ex Army??, might leave it on though as its handy, but you can't open the spare wheel door unless you take the tongue off first. The gal fittings for the over head roof rack might need to come off though.

cheers
Scott

Hey Scott,

I have the racks for those gal pipe fittings if you want them ?

They are there when you want them and come in handy if you have 6m timber lengths etc to transport.

Cheers,

Mick

Scott, I know that you should never say never but I doubt that the army ever used that type of tow bar anyway. As to saying something never happened, as soon as you open your big mouth someone will come up with irrefutable proof that it did happen. Been there, done that, didn't like it!

Yeah your probably right Geoff, I'm sure there may have been a RAEME officer running a workshop putting a tow bar on his company car somewhere 😊👍

Mick

Mick, A RAEME officer doing an unauthorised mod? Wash out your mouth with scotch, er, soap.

I'd get one of those ex army domestic 6x3 luggage trailers that Manheim auction off from time to time.
Nearly bought one myself a year or so ago.

Very nice pick up Mick,  I think they're the two at the Bandiana Museum.

Who wouldn't want one of those ?

Cheers,

Mick

Thanks boys,

I'm thinking of making a cage for the back and turning it into a MP wagon. I remember them vaguely :-)

Cheers,

Mick
Does this look like a potential Provosts cage?  http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/greta/other-parts-accessories/lamdrover-cage/1129709119
You'd just have to make up a mesh rear door to complete to lock up stage. I think the same canopy you have now would also fit.

Took the old girl for a drive this morning.

Beautiful day in " God's own country" western Victoria,  Grampians national park in the background.

Cheers
Scott.
