Rear seating in a 110 soft-top
« on: February 15, 2014, 11:16:25 PM »
Hi there,

I really love my 110 FFR, and it's pretty much untouched from when I bought it apart from minor maintenance.  It's great in the bush, but only having 1 passenger is causing hassles.  Has anybody out there done a FFK version (fitted for kids) in any configuration?  I'm wondering about 3 in the cab, 3 rear-facing in the tub.  I actually bought a Transit bus seat cheaply to try it out, but it's too high in the cushion for the cushion to roof clearance specified in the ADR doc, and it's a bit poor on access too.  I haven't talked to an engineer, and live in VIC.  I did go and see some guys in Bendigo who would have fitted some category 2 seats, but the price was 1/2 the price of the whole vehicle just for supply and fit.

Vicroads made me disable the rear seating on inspection as well, which didn't endear them to me, or to the huge q of excited customers who had to wait in line while I fumbled around with a shifter and a pair of 90c pliers.

Is it just impossible in the current environment?

I was wondering about the fold out third row front facing seats in current defenders; surely they'd fit and be legal, given that they are in the defender. Access is even better than the defender, as you can just leap out the side! Facing the front is surely nicer than backwards after all.

They might physically fit but it wouldn't be a simple proposition.

I've certainly seen forward facing seat for 2 engineered into series 2a land rovers, no reason why it couldn't be done with a 110, but it is a bit of work, and cost with the engineering.  I'm not aware of any easy "Bolt in"solution.
