Actually I can't recall if ROP was included in the original Perentie Specification, I will have to check it, I have a copy somewhere I think.

That said, I know a number of different ROP types were trialled on the perentie before that one was settled upon. Can't remember where the photos are though.

From memory I believe the ROP became the first Modification on the plate for the vehicle.
I remember the first ones I saw didn't have ROP and others said don't go too fast in the bush
'cause people have rolled 'em.

The 101 has roll over protection however I would not like to test it as it is just bolted to the gal capping - albiet in a strong area of the body - however any forward or rearward motion in the rollover would most likely fold the ROP down.

Max Speed 45mph was the dash stencil on many Series military landys.

Not many people remember the dash stencil was part a road safety awareness campaign
conducted for the english speaking military-service-members of the world --
it used a popular tune by Rolf Harris (popular back in the 60s) with an accompanying wobble noise he made using a Land-Rover door skin..

Uncle Ho used to whistle it at work.

"Keep the greasy down, sport. Keep the greasy side down.
"Max Speed 45, Clive, don't go over that 'n stay alive.
"yeah Altogether now
"Keep the greasy down, sport, keep the greasy side down..."

I believe 49-005 is one - the Automatic equiped "Phoenix" vehicle (lol).....

I have photo's somewhere of ROPS testing at Monegetta... I'll dig them out after the move...

I am sure I have another photo of that ROPS setup somewhere as well.  Might be in a document about the ROPS on the Australian fleet come to think of it.

Actually, looking at that high roof, I may have another photo of that vehicle about the place.

Hi all
Very nasty incident and my families condolences go out to all concerned.
I think it is a person preference if you want to fit a ROPS.  A pre drive check should be carried out on all vehicles, particularly tyres. If a suspect tyre or tyres is found and must be driven use some common sense and drive accordingly.

Modern tyres do not seem to fatigue as the early tyres do, but still do a walk around prior to driving.
We must not forget Blow outs can be caused by not only old tyres but damaged walls from rocks etc. and under inflations which make tyre temps rise which increases pressure.

It is a Military vehicle , carry out pre start up checks
