We'll put rovernut that's where I was leading to. Part numbers don't mean as much as a NSN but if you have the part number you can get the NSN. If you have either you can find stock levels and what warehouse has what you want, all you need is a reason to order and an ARN to book it to and you have your parts.
Cheers
Rod

OK Rod ... got your pencil ready?   :D

What I was trying to say is that if you need a part for a Land Rover and have the number you can get. But from the warehouse end, they cannot identify that part as belonging to a Land Rover. So every time they retire equipment, it takes years for them to identify the parts that belong to that piece of equipment sitting in the warehouse. It usually takes someone to investigate why none of those parts have been moved for a couple of years and then they will try and find out what it belongs to. I have seen aircraft parts still in the warehouse for planes they have not had for decades. Simply because it was always a slow moving line and nobody bother to find out what it was for.

Then there is also the factor of budgets. The buyer for Land Rover parts will have a budget to spend on parts and repairs. He is usually afraid that if he does not spend it, his budget will be reduced, so he is probably still buying new parts for Land Rovers. They also quite often use up their budgets for repairs, but not their budget for new parts. So instead of fixing it, they buy a new one and wait for the next budget year to fix the old one.

It is a complicated world when it comes to Defence warehouse parts, so don't expect a rush of Land Rover parts to come on the market at a particular point in time. It will be sold once they are all gone and as they work out what parts they need to get rid of.

Thanks guys.
Yes, I'm really not concerned that they aren't selling the good stuff yet, but it's giving me the irits that they are either knowingly selling crap, or they are just too lazy to give it the once over and provide a half decent service to the long suffering on-line punters, or, both!
I think they guys at AFM do a great job. On an unauthorised walk into.the workshop. Before I was kindly asked to leave by Colin, I noticed they had three mechanics, one guy washing cars and a guy on the forklift. I assume it would take time to get the rovers up and running each month. I'm not sure they'd have time to look at the parts. Probably just open the crate and blow the dust off.

Here is the latest 'great job' read '11th hour extortion attempt' from your buddies at Grays/AFM!

Smack me about a bit ... am I dreaming? or are they trying to scam me? Where was that gem of info on the Grays site at the time of auction end?

I'll leave it with you, but just a note ... at no time have I, or any of my associates ever collected anything from Grays that was outside the collection time nominated by Grays and at no time have Grays ever had any difficulty receiving any payment.
It's not about how they treat you when you're there, but about how they treat you when you're not!  It's called a 'mission statement'.

Did anyone else get this email?

I also found this email on my computer yesterday. As you say there was no mention of this up to auction end. How is anyone who purchased a gearbox or axle or engine supposed to pick them up - stupidity saying you have to bring your own forklift.

I got the same email too, mind you I was asking about it. I asked if I could pick up a trans Tuesday instead of Wednesday. They also told me that there would be a forklift available to load out the parts/crates.
I have seen similar emails and notifications befor, but I've never seen it enforced. They are probably just trying to encourage people to do the right thing and pick them up at the right times so they can organise themselves and don't have too many vehicles moving around while they are trying to do the forklift work ?

You have to remember, with emails, you can't hear tone of voice so it must be read with a positive attitude:).....or maybe there just a**holes ;) hahaha, who knows!!

I suspect it's a standard email designed to get people to collect and not leave stuff lying around. When I was at Adelaide a few weeks ago getting my trailer, their forklift was working overtime bringing stuff out to put on trucks and trailers for customers. I actually went to check out my trailer the day BEFORE pick up to make sure it was ok to tow etc, and as a result of that visit scored some significant extras with it.

I went to check the spare parts at Minto and I got the drivers instructions manual for the 6x6 ( unfortunately, I need the one for a 4x4 ) and some more information for the Perenties and N: 5 trailer downloaded into my usb stick

I picked up an unserviceable Perentie last year from Minto. The driver was expecting to be pointed in the right direction and that he would be winching it on. To our surprise they put it on the tilt tray with a forklift.
Moorebank do not appear to be so helpful.
As far as I know Minto have always had time restrictions on pick up. Three trailers and two Landrovers so far all the same and no problems.
Geoff.
