What is the electronics with the anodised blue heat sink fitted to the guard near the alternator on the RFSVs?

Howard

That's a little ARB air compressor.

Close.   The ARB unit is attached on right side inner mudguard.
Heat sink fins seen on the left inner mudguard is the Battery
Isolator for the the two batteries which run separately.

Someone might want to check this one out when inspecting in Melbourne:
http://www.graysonline.com/lot/0018-3007373/transport-trucks-and-trailers/land-rover-110-4x4-cargo-soft-top-08-1987
Looks to have had a chassis swap at some time, either that or Grays have muffed it.
Cheers,  Daryl.

I tend to be doing the auctions instead of coming in here.  2 interesting RFSV's though as they are 2 of the last made.

51-792 in Melbourne and 51-793 in Adelaide were the last two RFSVs built and delivered in October 1991 on the same day. 51-794 the last RFSV ARN was delivered in September.

It was good to inspect the lots and chat to people at Minto. I would strongly advise any buyer to get to AFM to check out the vehicles and never to rely solely on the photos unless they are willing to take the risk.

Here's my opinion and its worth what it costs you..
The photos do not show some problems at all; eg under bonnet brace rust, radiator panel surface rust, surface or exposure rust and other small troubles.
This is amongst the GS/FFR only:
One unit had no pintle hook. 2 units had no roof rack/ cam net rack. 4 or 5 units had bends in the ends of the Roo bars. I lifted a lot of floor matting. 1 unit has rust under paint on the firewall exterior above the bonnet hinge line. 2 units had dinged side panels - small bends that are hard to see in the pics.

I got under 5 or 6 units and I could see marks on the chassis from being lifted on and off semi trailers using forklift tynes.. with consequent bare metal in places. Mind you thats my opinion, I wasn't there, I didn't see. I'm guessing. Maybe some Landies, without having their wheels on for whatever reason, somehow went for a small sideways slide along railway tracks.

I have a friend in country NSW that is interested in 51-670  ;) if he can't get that he will settle for a GS at Minto that auction closes today at 4.45pm from memory.

There is a RAAFie there that is nice. :)

But it will have to wait until I repair my Lightweight that I rolled end-over  :'(

I was returning home to my place one evening about 7.30pm when that STUPID series 3 bonnet catch let go at 70+kph,(semi rural road) traffic following, pulled left, down the table drain, stood it on it's nose and dropped onto the canopy,I crawled out through the remains of the canopy and bars  :o, the batteries (24V) emptied themselves with the petrol (under seat tanks) all over my jeans,I was shaken but not stirred  ;)

But I was also very lucky not to be seriously hurt, thanks to a lap/sash seat belt.

Yes, I will rebuild it, probably next year, have to save for the Lightweight bonnet and panels which will possibly be ex-UK.

cheers

Sorry to hear about the bonnet causing so much grief..

Sorry I was a bit distracted slow to reply to your post. The AFM Sydney auction was in its last 2hrs. I've been in a zone from 2pm to 5.30pm really. Its a great husband wife team thing with bids and lots numbers on the move so much in the last hour.
We got the one I wanted, FFR 8/90 arn 50-257.
Underneath it had new driveline bits such as props, unis, bushes, etc such as that triangular susp arm at the back end.

The FFR tables & chairs were there too. No wince fitted but it has a logbook which many didn't. Its missing a exhaust hose but if I asked them nice they would probably have a spare.

As for price, I think I paid 360 more than average price, for my pick. I bid at 2.22 and it held to the official close at 1645. The price I bid was what I got to in the last auiction before giving up, and that was on a auction where I didn't inspect the lots except looking over the supplied web pics.

Well, I guess everyone is still in shock with the Melbourne auctions.
Almost $37k for the 6x6 Infantry carrier.
Almost $27k for the RFSV.
