Injector pump
« on: June 21, 2020, 03:33:18 PM »
G day all, I had anybody adjusted the max fuel adjustment on there 4BDI, I realize that it is locked by wire, however I just reckon my engine lacks a little power under load. Done a compression test all good, thinking about winding the screw out half a turn, give her a bit more fuel. Any advice would be appreciated JOHNO

Before you adjust the fuel screw make sure you have an EGT gauge so you can monitor the combustion temperatures. You don't want to melt a piston. Usually adjusting it out 1 turn will produce a noticeable improvement but a larger exhaust in combination with a fuel increase will give a better result.

Thanks Bearman, I rarely have the engine under full load, it’s just that I have noticed when traveling with other Perenties mine lacks a little on long hills. Good engine does not smoke or use oil. Compression test OK. I have turned the screw out half a turn, which moved the screw about 3/4 of a millimeter. I will see how she performs. I suppose what I am doing is moving the rack open a bit more, giving her a bit more fuel? Thanks for advice mate. Johno

Small increase in fuel delivery may make lots of black smoke ,and earn you a smoke notice from the RTA........You certainly wont melt pistons or anything else ,diesels dont work that way.

Yes you certainly can melt pistons, Diesels run a hotter combustion temperature when they run a fuel rich mixture.

I would be very careful adding more fuel than standard to a N/A diesel.
