Correct fire extinguisher for 2a 1960's?.
« on: February 15, 2018, 04:48:47 AM »
Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to help. What type of fire extinguisher would be correct for a 2a in service during the 1960's?.

If someone could post a picture that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Matt.

In the early 60's they used Pyrene type filled with Carbon Tetra Chloride (CTC), I do have the later type in my shed and if no-one posts an image I will later today, cheers Dennis

Thanks Dennis. Do you know when the carbon tet type were phased out? Here in the UK it seems to have been around 65. Do the later extinguishers fit into the bracket for the Pyrene carbon tet type?.

Cheers,

Matt.

Matt, here is an image showing a Pyrene (CTC) and a later extinguisher and as you can see it will not fit the bracket

I'm not sure about when the CTC types were withdrawn, maybe some members within this site who served during the 60's etc may now what year they were withdrawn from service,
cheers Dennis

Thanks Dennis, that's a great help!.

The extinguisher bracket on 112-498 is for the Pyrene CTC type.

On my 1961 British army Mk6 the Pyrene CTC is dated 60 on the handle and WD marked for War Department.

Cheers,

Matt.
