WA auctions

Never bought from an auction before and if I'm lucky enough to score one unfortunately I'll be taking a big gamble, as I can not get down to check them out before bidding.

So any tips of hints about the auctions would be greatly appreciated.

Well Steve, I would say it would be a very good idea to inspect them well - there will possibly be undisclosed mechanical defects, missing fittings and RUST. Can you get a trusted person to go along and look at it for you ? If buying in NSW, there are businesses that do this.

Barefoot Dave on this forum has prepared comprehensive buyers guides and checklist that most buyers would benefit from - I think you can buy a electronic copy online and they're not expensive.

Take care with your bidding.

Keep in mind that, on top of whatever you bid,  you will have to pay another 1/6th (seller's fee and gst !) before they let you take it away.

Then, on top of this, you will have to pay whatever your hungry state government can possibly charge in the way of stamp duty, transfer and rego fees.

Then there is insurance.

Sometimes, there is a good case for buying a previously sold one out of gumtree or whatever. I see that there are currently at least 3 in WA that would probably be cheaper than buying at auction. At least you can get them checked by a trusted person AND you can drive them .

I took a gamble.
I got a good one.
Ok, it had a couple of small leaks in the cooling system, worn tie rod ends, non functional heater fan, leaking roof and needed the wiper blades replaced. Not a deal breaker.
GG, however, bid just on what he saw on line.
What he got, however, was a gem. Bugger all to get a roadworthy, a number of major components were new, it had overseas deployment history, in service pics and interesting in service modifications. All for a relatively reasonable auction bid.

I hear more good stories than bad when buying from the auctions. Just don't get caught up with auction fever.

Thanks Mick and also Tristan thanks for our chat this morning.
Only 2 at the Perth auction and no doubt they will fetch a price which is probably outside my budget anyway (12000 inclusive of GST and buyers premium).

Went to place a bid last night but apparently you need a credit card or paypal just to place a bid. Heck we don't even have a bank here!

The paypal account doesn't need any money in it to bid, I used a paypal account to make bid but paid using another method.

There are some on Gumtee now in Perth.
The GS is OK but the price needs to come down.
The days of $6k 110's at AFM auctions has well and truly gone now.
