Need some windscreen washer help
« on: August 28, 2016, 04:59:23 PM »
Up until yesterday the windscreen washer worked well, that is until it didn't!
I thought the sprayer was just blocked, but it turns out that the tubes are fine and the sprayer jets are ok too, but I discovered something a little odd.

The jet/sprayer is located under a metal protector plate as everyone knows...ok that's good.

I took the metal plate off and found a plastic spray jet head 'loose'!
If held against the body, it worked fine, but it was just a spray head that slipped over the pipe coming from out of the wall and nothing was holding it in place or secure!

This is the existing pipe that's located and locked to the wall (notice the cutaway/keyway already in the pipe profile).

And this is the spray jet removed.

It in fact looks like it's meant to slip off the pipe and even has the faintest signs of a keyway or cutaway inside the hole that mates to the pipe.

The problem is that it's not locked onto the pipe and the metal cover doesn't hold it there or keep it in place, so what the hell is this all about and why did it work when this is what you're meant to buy as a replacement?

Do I just glue/seal/apply pressure to my existing plastic sprayer under the metal cover to keep it there, or am I missing something?

Some help would be appreciated... (;->

The part is normally glued together, and I could've sworn there was a ridge on the inner piece that the outer piece clicked into as well.

Thanks for the info Dervish.
Yes, that's what was odd, it was one day working fine and the next very sloppy and loose on the pipe and I could not see how it could have been held in place as it certainly wasn't an interference fit.

I've had a look up inside the sprayer inner pipe and I think you're right, there looks to be a possible mating section there.

I think the ridge is on the protruding pipe at the base and the recess is inside the spray head, but I can't seem to get it to lock on and have already snapped a small piece of plastic off the sprayer unit  trying to push or shock it back on.

I also notice that the protruding pipes cutaway/keyway is angled toward the drivers side.

Anyway, I'll try to glue temporarily and buy a new unit as they're not really expensive, but thanks for the feedback.
