1959 Command Recon

First post. I am restoring my 88 that I bought in 1978 and drove until 2000. It is a rolling chassis at the moment and should be ready by Anzac Day 2017. The only details I have found so far is the PMC plate ;
Body No. LRS 1635
Ser. No. 88 1635

I am still looking for the nomenclature plate (misplaced!) but I remember the date on it was 20 Jan 1959. So a fairly early example.
Can anyone tell me what LRS signifies?
The only other plate I have is one that states Con. & S.T.

Hi Chris

To find out more you will need its chassis number it should start with a prefix "143"the next digit "9", "0", or "1" indicates production year 1959, 1960, or 1961.

The LRS plate is merely a production serial number for vehicles assembled at Pressed Metals Corp Enfield NSW, (LRS = Land Rover Short)

Hi Chris, welcome to the forum.

Hopefully you will be able to find your ARN using your chassis number, there is even a very slight chance that an in service photo may exist...

The CRs are very thin on the ground these days, good to see another one coming back to life!

Are you restoring it in bronze green or olive drab?

I'm not sure about the other plate that you mention, all army vehicles of this period did have a repair plate that was attached when they were accepted from the factory, but CON S.T does not ring any bells.

This is a great forum, I find it a very helpful group of great people.

I can't help you with the LRS, but the other abbreviated is Con (convoy) S & T (side n tail lights) it is mounted under the convoy light switch
here is an image of the switch in my C/R

basically all it does is when switched in normal mode (S&T) and into Convoy, all tht does is turn on the light mounted up under the rear,
the other lights stay on unless you switch them off, unlike the later convoy light switch in the S2A/3 cheers Dennis

Thanks for the helpful replies. I spent all day today cleaning up the chassis and some rims (somehow I have 15) and found the Chassis no. stamped in to the rear right spring hanger ;
143900917.
So, now I know it was 111-682, disposed of 2 Aug 68.
It was originally Deep Bronze Green, so that is what I will use. I did paint it OD in the mid 1980s, as well as put an army brush guard on it. that will not be used again on this vehicle.
The  Con S.& T.image that DennisM posted is how I remember it - on a separate panel - before pulling it down. It never had the convoy light switch that is shown. I must look for one now!
I will examine the rear to see if there is any holes drilled in the floor for the jerry can holder.
