Hey everyone. I purchased a perentie ffr from the May auction. Arn 230159. I believe it is an ex RAAF Because of the arn number and the sticker it has on the dash stating "seatbelts are mandatory for passenger and driver in RAAF MT"
I pick the vehicle up next weekend from klr so i dont have a lot of information yet. I inspected the vehicle at AFM but didnt notice any markings on the body. I also couldnt find any information in the logbook about where the vehicle had come from.
I'd like to know if anyone can give me some info on the vehicles history or some in service photos. Perhaps point me in the right direction. Ive looked on the remlr website and haven't found much.
Any info would be appreciated thanks!

The front pages of the log book showing where and when the vehicle was in service were blank from memory. But i will have a better look when i take possession next weekend.
Is it accurate to say that these RAAF LR's have had far less use than other perenties?

Yes, if at mt (and not with a unit) it would have only been taken out when everything else was gone 😊, also it would have been driven more conservatively 😊.

A long time ago 😊 I took a Perentie out on the condition that I mustn't put it in 4WD because my RAAF licence "didn't have that endorsement"  😃.

Based on my logbook for 231194, mine had about 80,000 kms on it and had a full rebuilt in 2006 I think. Don't have the log book with me at present.
I've even been lucky enough to find a RAAF mechanic who worked on my bus through Facebook!!!!!

On the notes i took when i inspected the vehicle ive noted it had a major service at 136,000 klms and recived a new gearbox and new front diff. It also has a restamped CAPO no. Which my understanding from my buyers guide is indicative of some type of rebuild.

What exactly is "motor transport"?

I think you will find "Motor Transport" is a generic RAAF term for vehicles! And if it was not allocated to a unit, MT could also mean the equivalent of a "pool car".

I'd say all RAAF Perenties would have very low road mileages.
The reason is they spend a lot of time at one end of the white lines
then go like buggery to get to the other end.  Then something else is
supposed to happen. I think.

As Aussie Jeepster posts, Motor Transport is the generic name for the unit on base that holds pool vehicles, cars, station wagons, small and large buses and occasionally something 4WD.  When I was involved it was more usual for 4WDs, trucks and specialist vehicles to be held by units who required them.

MT have their own shed and a yard with washing and fuelling facilities nearby.

It was (and I hope still is) considered polite to wash and fuel the vehicle before it was returned to MT at the end of the day (or longer approved borrowing period).

(Something for you look up - google enfield heraldry - and yes it is on the badge of 38SQN - for the record I was never a member of that illustrious SQN or the full time RAAF - & I like the thinking behind the (rare) use of it as a symbol 😊)

from my recollection at base tpt at amb they held one lr for driver training and 38 sqn had two plus a umimog as the lr could not tpted in caribou the replaced them with suzuki jimmys in black.

again adg had lr and they were maintained by raaf separately from the army up til 1999 and then they were recalled and rebuilt by the army wksp as part of the midlife upgrade through defence supply network
