Used to be that way, but I felt Land Rover now searched the same as Landrover.

It does  ;D or at least it does when I search  ;D

Not Military but proves prices are going up.. Looks very nice too...
Current bid $2,000
It may just prove the vendors expectations are fanciful. Can't say until auction end.
I'd have it for $2,000.

There was a very well priced ex-mil SIII 109 for sale at $4,000 recently. Did that get sold? I'd buy that befor that shorty for $7,000.

This guy is having trouble selling. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Ex-Army-4x4-Landrover-/150868953262?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item23207d88ae&ssPageName=RSS:B:SHOP:AU:101&clk_rvr_id=369974230039

Well, if you want it, put in a bid. If you are not prepared to bid, then it's not worth what you say to you. It appears it is worth less to others.
I'd love to have it but with eleven vehicles and five trailers on a suburban block, I have no room left.
I think the original vehicle that this thread was about had special significance to the buyer. He was probably prepared to pay more than other bidders because of that significance. You cannot assume from that sale that all workshops are worth that much.

 My two cents worth...

I suspect there may be some sour grapes at play regarding the original vehicle sale at the beginning of this thread.

It transpired tha a REMLR member had been bidding against the winner - to the tune of no less than 16 bids in one evening alone - and had bombarded the vendor with requests for photos, details and even video footage during tha auction.

I reiterate that the final buyer had a personal connection with that particular workshop landrover, had been hunting just such an exceptionally original example for nearly 20 years and had, during that time collected together all the parts required to return it to display worthy condition.

I have it on good authority that the new owner is  very happy with his purchase .

Which all goes to show that value is in the eye of the beholder and reinforces the notion that Ex Military Land Rovers don't seem to conform to an established market value.

I have personally been collecting, restoring and occasionall selling a number of Vintage and Ex Military vehicles, and especially Land Rovers, and in my experience there seems to be a pattern of roughly half the time paying a little more than I wanted to obtain a certain vehicle or parts, then the other half of the time having almost unbelievable luck stumbling onto treasure or being given something free of charge. If you do enough of it this hobby seems to even out pretty well when viewed over a long period of time...

-And thats not even allowing the sheer fun factor in hunting. !

- And I have to ask what real business is it of ours here at REMLR what people are prepared to pay for their little slice of the collecting dream, except in terms of general interest as observers.

Cheers

Phill

I dont want it, I was merely Interested as to what you, I, others would value it at, then see how close we were if and when it sold.....

Very well said Phill and exactly my experience.

My two bobs worth - I find these discussions rather pointless but....

Some of the army Land Rovers I have bought I have parted simply to help restoration on other army Land Rovers if I didn't I wouldn't have any restored and back to original spec, eg I bought a Series 3 FFR for $500 on ebay not long ago and parted it, big deal that does not represent the value of this model, I have also spent nearly $15k fully restoring my original S3 FFR and bought 2 other FFR's with their price somewhere in between.

So what's the real value?? = the lowest value the seller will sell for vs the highest price the buyer will pay for it, if the two overlap you have a sale if they don't no sale, that swap over point will vary on each transaction.

Cheers
Scott

Its got nothing to with me you or any other person, what things sell for, and I agree with your comment 100%. I really don't give a monkeys what things go for, I am merely Interested in what things sell for.  Sometimes you can indeed pick up a bargain, or pay over the odds for something, I have done this at times, but if I want something and I believe it to be  a good item I will pay the asking price.

I suspect there may be some sour grapes at play regarding the original vehicle sale at the beginning of this thread.l
Phill, I think you are reading this thread wrong.
Juddy started this thread and knowing more of Juddy's story with his workshop, I think it was more astonishment.
Reading the posts in this thread about the recent workshop purchase, I am very happy that fellow got it. I understand it has special significance to him.
I'm also very happy Juddy got his workshop. He's doing a great job with it and I always look forward to reading his reports on progress.

Actually, I had two chances to buy Juddy's workshop. I still like it and would love to have it.
I stumbled across it on ebay. It was on a farm and used it to collect firewood. They bought from another farmer in the area who bought it at the auctions. Anyway, back to the ebay bit. I was interested in it. I was very interested in it. I even went out to the farm to have a real good look at it and I was impressed and I was going to buy it. Trouble was, someone else was interested in it. A nice fellow I can say as I met him a few years later and found out his side of our bidding war.
I put in a bid. He would put in one higher. So on and so forth until....
It's a funny thing, he valued the workshop the same value as I did but as I was the first to bid than amount, It was mine.
Mine, mine I gleefully thought. Bidding had stalled. It was all but over I thought.
Then tragedy, my opponents wife said to her hubby "Why don't you put another five dollars on it."
Noooooooooo!
The turmoil I was in. Do I or don't I? I didn't know I was $5.01 away from ownership. As far as I could see it could have been fifty or five hundred or five thousand. Anyway he got it.
After a few years, the fellow who won the ebay auction wanted to sell it. Great, my second chance. Then Juddy sent me a message wanting me to look at it for him. I suggested we get Alien along too (he's really good with the mechanics). I met the fellow I had the bidding war with and we had a laugh. He had cleaned it up really well. There was no crap on it or in it.
The condition report and photo's were sent to Juddy and he bought it (well done). Later we assisted in getting it shipped, oh, and had a drive thinking of what may have been.

Funny how things work out
