Just cracked my windscreen reinstalling it…
« on: March 15, 2015, 06:41:17 PM »
Doing the soap and rope trick it broke  >:(

About the worst done job yet.

What brand would you use to replacing the glass?

Is there a national brand that exceeds the design standards brief? Say on heat and glare. I’m too tall for a tint I would look straight into it.

Something that resists stone chips to the max...

If I go to a wreaker and get one how do you tell it’s a genuine Land Rover one as it would have __________ etched on it?
Heard they are very good.

Cheers Phil

Happy days no insurance

Ill start the ring around in 9 hours. One of the big three offer a lifetime warranty.. Lets see if the can do it on a 110 front screen rubber LOL.  ;D

Genuine  a Pilkington windscreen? Only price I found was over a grand plus listed over 3 years ago. plus the rubber.

all I can find right now

After the ring around this morning the lifetime warranty only covers the glass.

Pilkington no longer exists in Australia and New Zealand was dissolved by Viridian glass. No cross reference with part numbers.

Genuine part number is MTC2864

Purchased new OE specification glass today, prices vary considerably like over 200%.

It’s like clothes, try and find something that doesn’t come from China.

Hey Philthy

Have you tried to source a windscreen from a wrecked Perentie. There are a few fellas around who are buying up wrecks at auction and rebuilding what they can. Must be a couple of windscreens around as a consequence.

Thanks for the thought Tommy.

The closest wrecker that had two Perentie’s in the yard was sent an email when I first got 49-175 (as a wreck), with pictures and part numbers accumulating a quotation of over $3,500.oo worth of parts.

I had to phone the owner three days later to see if he got the email then was told “Sorry we are so busy- leave it with me and I’ll get on it”

Well it’s been over seven months now I still haven’t received a reply and that guy “North of Brisbane” They will never see a cent of mine, ever...

I’m funny like that!

I’ve bought new OE windscreen from the same vendor that supplies the ADF Land Rover spare parts here in Brisbane.

Off topic where do you get all those cracking great photos from? If it wasn’t WA on your avatar I’d say you sleep on the scanner at the Canberra War Memorial!

They a treat to see, thanks for posting  them.

So, this is what soap on a rope is used for!     :P
