Aluminum plugs in head
« on: September 07, 2014, 03:54:55 PM »
As a new boy on the block can anyone please tell me about the (4) four aluminum plugs in the head of my 2A 1968 109 original motor with 96886 miles on it.  Few weeks ago I blew the front one  #2 was also sad, (3) reasonable and (4) the best. I thought I had blown the head gasket. I did not known they existed until my mechanic informed me of them.  Was a surprise as I have been around Land Rovers for many years BUT never heard anyone mention them. I am always willing to learn so please don't hold back.  The parts were sourced from USA which again is a surprise to me.  I had him replace all (4) four and the old girl and she has never run better.  Yes I had been losing a little water but could not find where it was going prior to the big blow out.  Thanks   Bluey

Just in the process of replacing the welch plugs on my s2a, too. There are three on the same side as the manifold. There is also a screw plug on that side close to the firewall and another welch plug at the back of the engine. I cut a hole in the firewall in front of the gear lever to get to that one.
