Lights wiring on 63model Series 2A 88" Command Recon
« on: June 17, 2013, 07:47:33 PM »
G'day,

I recently turned on my black out lights and then later tried my head lights which didn't work. Since trying the black outs I have had trouble with the head lights, tail lights, etc.

The tail lights / parks worked once and the head lights / full lights came on later after leaving the vehicle . Now the head lights, Parkersburg or tail lights don't work.

Does anyone have any ideas or had the same problem? I think it could be the switch mech?

Appreciate any feed back

Cheers,

Mick

Have you inspected the rear of the bl out switch? There's quite a few terminals. If just one wire rotated a bit and is touching an earth where it shouldn't... and afterall it was the part that you disturbed -its where all the movement was. Its where to make a start in on the mystery I reckon.

I'm no expert here but I was under the impression that the C/R was a S2, the S2A being a GS?, anyway I hope you get your issue sorted, cheers Dennis

The series 2 command recon was basically a civilian model with very few military modifications.

The series 2a General Service (GS) was a heavily militarised vehicle with a number of special modifications including cut guards, tool brackets on the guards, brush bar, bumperettes at the rear, tail light protective tubs and so on.

There are photos on REMLR of a brand new series 2 command recon here http://remlr.com/lrprpics.html

and of a series 2a long wheelbase here http://remlr.com/lrprpics2a.html (not many differences with the shorties). More info about the 2a GS here http://remlr.com/2A88gs.html

Thanks or the heads up Phoenix, I originally thought it was a GS until checking the ARN list on the website, ARN112781 is listed as a Command Recon?

I think your on the money and appreciate your answer.

Mick

Hi Mick,

I read a thread the other day... something about there being an error in the database.  I think you'll find that 112-781 should be listed as a GS.

Hi I just checked the database as I have access to it, 6005 is recorded as Command Recon, but I know 6005 is 1/4 ton GS (6028 is 3/4 ton GS ie the 109's), I have 112-433 a 88"1/4 ton GS as described on the plate but in the database it's Command Recon - will have to leave this one for Pheonix

Anyway all 2A shorties are a 1/4 ton GS, the series 2's were Command Recon's

cheers
Lots...............

Hi FFRMAN,

To be honest I had never heard of a Comd/ Recon until accessing this site. Phoenix explained the Comd Recon / GS story really well. Appreciate the feedback and I'm now full bottled that its a GS.

I'm still struggling with the wiring problem though.

Cheers,

Mick

Something is wrong with the database, this happened with the FFR's the other day.  A couple of the Census codes were used as 2 different nomenaclatures, so I recorded some as 6005, and some as 6005. for example, to delineate the Command Recon from the 88 General Service.  Sometimes the database drops off the . (or .. in some cases).  I'll fix it now.  But yes, it is  a GS.
