First good drive of my Perentie - Angas
« on: January 02, 2015, 05:13:46 PM »
Well, it wasn't an off road epic, but it was a 500km round trip road trip to Burra and back.
My normal 4x4 is a 4 door yellow Jeep Wrangler - auto, turbo-diesel, air con, power steering, stereo etc etc.
The Perentie sure is a change, but not a bad one.
Yes, its noisier, no air con, no turbo, no power steering, no radio etc.
But it drives more comfortably and the suspension is not as hard as the Jeep. Its sweet spot seems to be about 95-100kph and it feels like it will do this all day. Still to work out fuel consumption but it looks around the 10k/l mark same as the Jeep.
Its nice to get back to a manual tranny and it is so similar to my old Series 3 FFR, but it is far easier to roll up the canvas on both sides and get good ventilation.
I've fitted FFR aerial mounts to it as I want to run some comms gear from it, plus covered storage between the wheel boxes and I'm very happy with it.
Still have a few niggles to sort out, but hey, it's a Land Rover!!!!!
I've attached a few pics taken at sunset up near an old township called Hampton, just outside Burra.

Great shots Mate! Thanks.
It seems strange, looking at the vehicle beside the road, how anyone could think the cam effective. UNTIL... you park it in a gully in country like that! whereisit?!?
Kind Regards, Barefoot Dave.

Thx for the photos, lots of details in there. A bit curious about the red webbing securing something on the ROPS..

Cool photos, glad you enjoyed your drive. I just done a 4,674km drive in mine and very comfy, never had the need for aircon even in 44 degree heat, and boy do I love that old school diesel knock and heavy gear changes.
