For you N.S.Wales-ites I would have an exceedingly close look at the firearms act and see if it defines "replica". Replica in my dictionary says an "exact copy", so if the thing was made of plastic, or wood and was by examination clearly not a rifle, then it may not be in breach of the law to own one,

Unfortunatly in NSW imitation and replica are the same so if it looks like a firearm it needs a lic and to meet the safe keeping laws :(

Hmmm! Obviously a law written by a moron and passed by a parliament of twits!

I can understand slightly the need for keeping small-arm replicas locked up, to prevent idiots using them in pretend armed hold-ups, but to apply the same rule to mega-rifles as large as a Land Rover, seems to be off the intent of the law. So how do artillery societies; military museums, etc. avoid the long arm of the law?

Is a lockable garage a suitable safe for a 106mm?

Just had a read of your Act, Diana.
What about applying to the Commisioner for a permit to possess an imitation? Send a comprehensive letter explaining what a good person you are etc. and you never know,

Sounds like a good plan Diana.

If I was in the same position, I would forget about the barrel and substitute something so obviously not a rifle barrel - such as piece of PVC pipe painted black - that those who uphold the law would be able to see the stupidity in not approving an application for a permit,
