LT95 shifting issue
« on: August 08, 2025, 06:36:34 PM »
Hello all,
I have tried to search and find someone with a similar issue to mine with no success.
The details:
I have a 1984 110 6x6 civilian with the LT95, just bought it so I am still learning a lot about it.

The issue:
The shifter has a hard time selecting any gear if I am at a stop and the clutch has been released in to neutral. For example, I drive up to a stop light wait at the light in neutral and depress the clutch to select first and I can't select any gears until I move the shifter up and down between either 3/4 or 1/2 repeatedly. It then slots into a gear and at that point I have no trouble selecting any gear, until... I release and depress the clutch again and it all started over.
Shifting while driving is completely fine (from the little I know of LT95s)

What I have tried:
Removing the shift lever and inspecting the selectors and things look normal and not damaged
Moving from high to low range - no change
Moving transfer case into neutral - SHIFTS PERFECT

If anyone has had this issue, has any ideas, or anything else I'd appreciate it! At the moment, it's just a pain and I'll likely wear out the throw out bearing as I just leave my clutch pedal in to avoid the problem.

Thanks in advance,
Henry

G'day Henry, it sounds to me that your clutch is dragging and not releasing properly. Try shifting gears with the engine stopped. If it shifts easily when stopped and difficult when running it will be the clutch not fully releasing. Have you checked if there is any fluid loss in the hydraulic system?

Thank you Bearman,
Looking down into the transmission I can see that the gears are stopped when the couch is in, but I'm realizing it's probably the mainstay that I can't see... I'll check it out tomorrow and report back!

The clutch has fluid, and I just replaced the slave cylinder. The issue was there before and after that replacement. I can shift perfect with the engine is off so I would agree with your idea. I'll try bleeding the system again, and hopefully get some air out of it/ find a smoking gun

Best,
Henry
