Rear diff pinion seal replacement
« on: January 31, 2017, 09:27:15 PM »
Hi All,

I'm weighing up whether or not to replace the rear diff pinion seal on my perentie GS by myself or by taking it into a mechanic. Now, I've been burnt by a few dodgy mechanics in the past due to my own lack of knowledge and have learnt from more trustworthy ones after the fact that I have likely paid way more than the average cost, caveat emptor as always!

I'm more or less equipped to replace the seal myself in this case, have all the parts, know what to do etc but there are a few tools I'll need to purchase and I was wondering if anyone would have a rough estimate for what you would pay in the mechanics shop for them to do it? I figure if it's going to be greater than $150 the money would be better spent on tools to do the job myself.

You dont need a lot of tools.Ive seen the seal replaced on big trucks with nothing more than a hammer, cold chisel, and screwdriver. The hammer and chisel are to undo and do up the pinion nut.Regards John.
