RL Bedford 4x4 in Australia?
« on: November 20, 2013, 10:31:58 PM »
On Gumtree at the moment is an RL Bedford, maybe ex military? have managed to get photos sent, doesn't appear to have the same type of TAC plate holders as the crane truck in the military vehicle museum in Adelaide.
Is there anything else that would give up as military? it is fitted with duel wheels on the back and doesn't have any plates indicating army heritage.
I do love the look of these trucks and it is close to home, almost too close!

A lot of RL Bedford were Commonwealth Government often Dept of Civil Aviation.  In fact many of them were originally imported by the British for the Atomic Bomb tests at Maralinga and then handed over to the Australian Commonwealth.

Hello M :)

There is one Australian army RL in the ARN list. Contact the seller and see if the engine or chassis numbers match up. Although it was sold off in Victoria, it may have ended up in SA.

This is it -

107-681...1956...Bedford...RL...RL2243 (engine)...RLB1243 (chassis)...1100x20...Vic. Truck, 3 Ton, GS, Cargo...17.07.1966   -
