The Greta Army Camp in the Hunter Valley turns 80, it was from all account occupied on the 7th November 1939, this year that makes the camp 80, the Branxton Greta Memorial Cycleway will be holing a celebration that was held for may years and finished in the 80s, called the Silky Oak Festival, the main street of Greta has a double row of Silky Oak trees that were planted to honor the WW2 veterans that served. The Silky Oak festival was previously held the closet Saturday to Armistice Day, so NEXT YEAR
With the assistance of the local business chamber we will be holding a town type festival step in military history and are seeking support from military vehicle owners and re-enactors the event will be held on the the
9th November 2019 - NEXT YEAR. We plan to have military displays, RAAF fly overs and all sorts of military items. The events has the support of both state and federal members due to the significant contribution of Greta, it will also be the 70th Anniversary of the camp being home to migrants from Europe.
