Please allow me to introduce maself ...
« on: January 28, 2021, 09:42:24 PM »
Hello all.
I have just become the custodian of a series 2A FFR. I have a couple of Blitzes and a 1940 Morris truck - and now couldn't pass up this well preserved example.
A learned friend of mine shares similar interests and gave me the 'heads up' when I showed him a pic when I was first offered this vehicle.
My intentions are to leave the paint alone as the 3 layers tell a great story as is.
I will however be looking to clean up the engine bay and fit new hoses, leads, belts etc., get the brakes working followed by new tyres.
I'll post some pics of dash area so anyone who knows can please feel free to tell me what is missing, what I need and where to get it perhaps ...
The bullbar is already off to return to original shape.
Looking forward to learning more about this great ol girl.
Many thanks for having me onboard - Andrew

It may have deployed to Namibia as part of Australia's contribution to UNTAG.

This operation was a on again / off again thing for over 10 years from 1978, with the deployment finally occuring in 1989. During this period, the Australian Army had quite a few vehicles prepared in UN white and placed in storage at Moorebank.  This included S2A's, one of which was a Workshop that is currently on display at the AWM and an Ambulance which is on display at Bandiana.

The initial deployment to UNTAG included 24 Land Rovers, 19 Unimogs, 26 heavy trucks, 43 trailers, 8 bulldozers and a variety of other road-building equipment such as graders, scrapers and rollers.

Very good find 👍

Thanks Gentlemen for the welcome ...
Chassis number: 25329133D
My informed friend tells me that makes it ARN: 175-195
He gleaned also that "did ANZUK service - served Malaysia or Singapore".
I will be keen to know what I need to put in the plate holders on front.
I will also be looking for best places to get parts new and second hand - starting with my leaking clutch/brake reservoir and cactus clutch slave cylinder ...
If someone up the chain of command would like to tell me the most appropriate spot to start a thread asking all my newbie questions (and posting more pix) would be great.
Many thanks again for all input so far - Andrew

Hi Andrew,

Up to you, but I reckon your vehicle will fit into the Radio vehicle page here. [url] https://remlr.com/forum/index.php?board=34.0

I have recently restored a 2A FFT from 1970, so it will be interesting to see some photos of yours. There are not many of these left!

For parts, I have used British Auto Parts here in Victoria, they have a really good website with a fairly easy to use parts section.

I’m sure that someone will be along soon to suggest some appropriate TAC signs, there is a lot of expertise here on this forum.

Looking forward to the photos,

Cheers,

Mike.

Thanks Mike - have started new post in that section with pix.
I also had a look at that website - very nice, lotsa stuff.
A lot of my enquiries will be if Civvy S2A parts are same for mine ...
We're away! - Outstanding.
