Series 2A Station Wagon 177-037

[Northern Lander]

I have recently picked this Station Wagon up from the owner who purchased it in 1990 from the Army Auctions.
I havent really had much time to look over it however it looks quite original except the engine that is a refurbished unit the owner says was in the landy when he got it.
A search reveals the engine came from Land Rover GS 174-397
Does anyone have any further information on these vehicles? or even in service, as I dont think there were many Station Wagons purchased.

Thank you Chazza.
I was lucky to get it.
Now I will have to find some of the little bits and do some jobs to it to get it up and running again.
I have attached the details of the GS vehicle the engine came from. It does have a recon plate on it and I will get a pic.
Unfortunately when it was disposed of the Army removed all the tac plate holders and brackets.
They also removed the reduced light from the front of the landy.
Not sure what the small light on the back left is.
It does however still have the rear  bumpers

going what you stated, the vehicle has undergone a rebuild during its life in storage. which is common as most vehicles have least one and upgrades are carried out. As part of the life veh fleet, they buy surplus engines and other assets. As they are needed they are replaced and are called rotatable means that they are sent out to contractors for repair and the refurbished engine is put back into the supply chain for further use.

Strange that the Army removed the tac holders etc. as they were usually left on.

I would say just before disposal the engine was changed out, I will refit a more period correct sealed system to that era of vehicle unlike the vented to atmosphere it has. And also remove the Webber carb.
It still has the rear bumpers, just not fitted. and I have a period correct 1/2 ton trailer that I can tow when needed.

The Tac Plate holders look great.
I will also be looking for Bridging Plate as well to refit. As per this photo of the same Landy

The bridge-plate has been discussed on here before, so it might be worth a search, because I recall somewhere in Europe having a great pile of them,

on wheeler dealers TV show in last couple of weeks they have done a few landrover resto including fitting a winch and made it into a camper / series 3 diesal refurb
