Another happy 6 x 6 owner
« on: October 26, 2014, 12:14:34 AM »
Hi All

Just lashed out and purchased a 6 x 6 perentie infantry carrier, we picked her up from the Gold Coast and drove her back home to WA.
No major problems just a couple of small oil weeps and had a great time driving her home.
Wondering how a vehicle 1996 only gets to have 1800 km on the clock in 18 years, did they keep some vehicles as back ups ?
Great forum, I no doubt will be picking your brains before long.

Regards
Gary M

Hi Garry, Looks like you got a good one as well, like the one I have must have sat around for a long time some place, as the inlet pipe to the air filter was stuffed  and the seats need looking at with sun damage. The roof had to be removed and resealed as water got in and some of the popriverts fell out.
Other than that ever thing eles is new.. 12thou. in 12-13 years .makes you wonder.
Have fun there is plenty to do getting it up to scratch...

Hi Robert

Fairly lucky I think with how this unit has turned out, but no doubt lots to do as you say.
I already have a wish list about a foot long but plenty of time to do alterations.
First priority is to get her (Molly, I didn't name her)registered in WA need to sort out these oil weeps and fit an imboliser {required over here} and she should be good to go.
Looking forward toyears ahead and counting down the years till retirement.

Must be a common problem, this leaking roof thing.

I have had a small leak around the hatch seal in really heavy rain. Im just putting up with it until I get time to remove the whole thing and replace with a plain panel.

In the GM120 for mine, there are many references to leaking roof. The solution they came up with was to silastic the hatch shut. Didn't work. It leaks around the panel the hatch is in. As others have said, the panel needs to be removed, cleaned and silkaflexed in with new pop rivets.

Gary, you DO NOT need to fit an immobiliser, see the WA Transport site:
http://www.transport.wa.gov.au/licensing/immobilisers.asp

Your 6x6 is ADR Category NB2, with a Tare of 3800Kg and GVM of 5600Kg. As you can see in the list of vehicles that are exempt, a 6x6 Perentie does require an Immobiliser for registration.
