The Registry Of Ex-Military Land-Rovers Au, NZ, etc Land-Rover Series 2A ¾ Ton Fire Tender

Welcome to Wayne's shed.

Wayne is a full time fire-fighter within the Mining Industry (BHP Billiton) and has a strong interest in collecting Australian fire fighting history and land rovers.

Wayne purchased the Series 2A in 2000 from the old township of Kingoonya (close to Woomera) -and he assumes it was used on the range - any ex-servicemen out there know for sure. Wayne is always looking for Fire Fighting equipment: he would appreciate knowing about any hoses, pump parts and older type fire extinguishers that you may have seen lately at swap meets or at your local wreckers etc. (ellard.4@bigpond.com.au).

The Land Rover was stripped back to the chassis and put many hours making sure all the mechanical parts are up to scratch. Like all restorations they take time and money and a lot of patients - and like many restorers there are many people we need to thanks along the way.

The Series 2A Land-Rover, ARN 112-176, began as a CKD cab chassis in 1964 and was delivered/completed as a "Chassis Fire Tender Spec Army (Aust.) 47" almost a year later; - I would love to hear from Army personnel that may have used it 'in-service' in South Australia between March of 1965 and July 1984.

Vineyard unit and Series 1 pumping. The reason the Series 2A is in the dam: the main suction line (4inch) is at the rear and the hard suction line is only 3inch, causing the pump to cavitate. The only way to supply enough water was to submerge the suction line at the rear of the Landy. Looks great!

The Vehicle was used in the Royal Adelaide Show in 2006 - to promote the history of the Fire Service in SA within the Arena

Series 1 Tender

It' a LWB 109 - 1958 series 1, it's an unsure whether is factory or contracted Fire Engine but one thing for sure its quite unique indeed.

It was in service from 1958 - 1971 with (WRE) Weapons Research Establishment (based at Woomera) in 1971 it was then on-sold to the Rural Fire Service in 1971 (South Australia Country Fire Service) - where it was modified & repainted white. Most of the restoration has been done with talking to the old fire-fighters whom used the mighty machine in its hay days, as Woomera used to be classed as a defence town and photography was prohibited. Restoration has started and planning to drive the Fire Engine to the Cooma 60th Celebrations in 2008
