A little bit of serendipidy at Corowa 2013.
Riding as a passenger in Iain R's
Misguided II 101 for the Saturday morning parade we were about to enter the Showgrounds to be marshalled for the photo op when another two green 101s fell in behind us. It seemed that
Misguided II wouldn't be alone. Parking immediately beside us for the photo op were AJ and his mate in
Misguided I.
During the conversation with Anthony, he mentioned that his 101 was one of the missing MoD units. Those out here who know a little of the Aussie 101 history, is that British Aerospace borrowed two 101 from the MoD to demonstrate the Rapier missile system to the Australian Army, when we agreed to the purchase the two Rapier demonstrator 101s remained in Australia. This makes them unique for Aussie 101 in that they served in both the British and Australian Armies.
Knowing that
Misguided II was one of the demonstrators, I always assumed that
Misguided I was the other 101 demonstrator. Checking the chassis numbers all was confirmed, both Iain's and AJ's are 961 prefix 101 making them UK home market units while
Misguided I is a 962 prefix making it an export production and part of the Australian contract.
The serendipidy is that both MG II's ex-MOD sister and his Aussie step-sister were both present at the one place.
