101 Family reunion, Corowa 2013
« on: March 17, 2013, 10:26:57 PM »
A little bit of serendipidy at Corowa 2013.

Riding as a passenger in Iain R's Misguided II 101 for the Saturday morning parade we were about to enter the Showgrounds to be marshalled for the photo op when another two green 101s fell in behind us.  It seemed that Misguided II wouldn't be alone.  Parking immediately beside us for the photo op were AJ and his mate in Misguided I

During the conversation with Anthony, he mentioned that his 101 was one of the missing MoD units.  Those out here who know a little of the Aussie 101 history, is that British Aerospace borrowed two 101 from the MoD to demonstrate the Rapier missile system to the Australian Army, when we agreed to the purchase the two Rapier demonstrator 101s remained in Australia.  This makes them unique for Aussie 101 in that they served in both the British and Australian Armies.

Knowing that Misguided II was one of the demonstrators, I always assumed that Misguided I was the other 101 demonstrator.  Checking the chassis numbers all was confirmed, both Iain's and AJ's are 961 prefix 101 making them UK home market units while Misguided I is a 962 prefix making it an export production and part of the Australian contract.

The serendipidy is that both MG II's ex-MOD sister and his Aussie step-sister were both present at the one place.  8)

Hi Diana - Misguided I was the first 101 I tried to buy but the then owner was a bit whacko and would never give a price and I walked away.

Good detective work on confirming that Misguided 1 is not one of the original twins.  I also thought it was the other trials vehicle.

However what is the evidence that AJs 101 is the other trials vehicle??  Were you able to view its Chassis Number as the other trials vehicle has a chassis number of 96100048.

Cheers

Garry

Hi Garry

The first image is AJs 101, it's not a good image but the best of three with my point and shoot digital camera.  I read it as 96100048A or 96100043A  I have images of Misguided 1s chassis number however that is even less clear but I read it as 96200075A.

Anthony says his was originally Auscam camouflage green, but he brought it back to NATO green or whatever the dark green colour underneath was.

Shame that pic of the chassis number was not better - I certainly cannot read it - I suppose the information could be obtained from AJ and the relevant section of REMLR updated.

From the file, AJ's 101 from back in it's OD days.

This photo must have been taken almost twenty years ago. Doesn't time fly.

A quote from Mick in the Corowa thread.
Went up to Corowa on Saturday for the day. It was good to catch up wit a few familiar faces and meet new ones.
I was chastised for not bringing a military vehicle but in my defence I did bring a civvy trailer that had two rims from a military vehicle and the trailer was painted in genuine army olive drab paint.

The photo's I took at Corowa.

It was a top day and worth the sprint up the freeway.

If anyone has a way of linking the BAC Serial Number with a Chassis Number or ARN please let me know.

Thanks

Ditto.

That tag was in such good condition, I thought it was a reproduction.

Some of them are.  Wasn't there a group buy a little while ago.  I know that Iain has all his originals and may have loaned some of his to replicate for people who were missing theirs.

I picked up the tag for "5.04 MISSILE RESUPPLY TRAILER SERIAL No 91016" recently.
I have to find the rest of the trailer now.

I have two sets (not installed) that were made up = one set has a blank for the number and the other was my best guess of what my number could be based on chassis number - however when researching this - comparing known numbers with know chassis numbers there did not seem to be any correlation.
