Thanks for posting pix up Wayne  ;)

The square cut guard on a S1 looks great. Gives it a bit of 'muscle'  :). It would be interesting to see the brush guard cut down in height to suit the lower profile of the S1. That should look pretty good as well.

Hi there

The cut guards and the bullbar are an after woomera conversion - but the ID plate states it was a MOD vehicle.

The tool boxs on the wings are a work of art, and with what history we could find it was a line layer on the Rocket Range

Totally agree.

Makes that S1 look awesome.  :)

This S1 that I owned a couple of years ago was ex mil (not sure if MOD (Womerra) or Kiwi) - the pics show some of the military stuff - headlights, brackets on the bonnet/guards, brackets in the back and connectors on the back.  I believe it is still in Queanbeyan somewhere.  Had a holden motor and a plywood dash >:(

I have posted pics on AULRO a number of years ago so might as well put them on here as well.

   I have a 49/50 Series 1 ex-Brit Army ARN 03BC23, chassis # 06100724. It had a base overhaul in England completed in January, 1956.
This Landy was issued in the first large order supplied to the British Army.
I aquired this with most of the body work and engine missing, however the chassis is in very good condition. I know nothing of it's aussie history except that it was located in far western Qld.
Lots of rumors suggest Woomera/Maralinga, but really I have no idea.
Over the past couple of years I have collected most parts to complete a full restoration, which hopefully will start in the near future. (too many projects???)
The restoration will be fully documented with lots of photos..................watch this space

G'day Cookey  :)

03-BC-23 may have been stationed at Amberley in Qld as that is where the Lincoln bombers that flew through the clouds from the tests were stationed, my nextdoor was a pilot in them, and died from "Black Cancer" (Luekaemia),they would open a window/hatch and collect dust samples in a bag or cannister,he was dead by 1958, mum and dad could not believe  how he just sort of withered up.I went to primary school with his son and daughter.

To my knowledge, all the Woomera ones were painted Yellow and Black, but Ellard would have possibily better info on that.

cheers

Uncle I dont believe that is correct, vehicles on airfields mainly got the check paintjob but there were quite a few
that would haved been beetling about in green. :)

G'day Digger  :)

You could well be correct there, I would also have thought that there would have been standard painted vehicles, note also that the drawings of the line layer has the Bridge Weight Disc on the RH side, have you not got a 2a with it on the same side?  and the pics posted by Garycol the vehicle has similar type brackets as would have been on one of the linelayer's for the dispensor pack.

cheers

Digger,

Many of the Series 1 Land Rovers used by the Long Range Weapons Establishment on the (greater) Woomera Range for long range recon were painted in large black/yellow squares to aid in visibility from both ground and air.

Thanks Mike,

I was just stating that there were green ones out there too!

I posted pics somewhere before about a s1, UK ex mod vehicle in grey (apparently a 'captains vehicle" from a destroyer!) that was sold at a clearing sale before I knew
what it was, Havent been able to find out who bought it unfortunately as the auctioneer wont play ball!  :(  (he is a good bloke though!) Still had some stencilling inside
(max capacity of 7 incl driver) and speed limit stencils...  Had hoodsticks and tools too (tools in very poor almost U/S condition..

had been used to carry stardroppers on a property!! (was 86" wb)

There is no knowledge as to how that came to be in australia.
