I've finally found it.  Copying this photo



I realised that there was an extra antenna bracket on the jerry can holder that is identical to the one kicking around my shed, I knew I would find out what it was one day!

Hi Richard,

Thats the bottom bracket for a Clarke Mast. There should be another ring bracket higher up.

Is that the same clark as the Uk use?

Same company... but they make a variety of sizes, so I'm not sure about that.

Hi Agas, any thoughts on whether the Army/RAAF might dispose of some of the Clark masts? Do you know anyone who may make repro/dummy masts for display only?

I can't see them being disposed of for a long time yet. They are pretty rugged and versatile.

You can ask these guys if you could buy one....  might be pricey though !

I wonder why the Clark base was moved to the outside of the jerry bracket. My 110 FFR does not have the second position and two sets of boltholes.

I'd like a base...

I'd doubt this stuff will ever be disposed of, usually a controlled item, ie destroyed or returned to point of origin at end of life

Thanks for the responses. FYI I phoned the local distributor of Clark masts and for a similar size mast to that used by the Australian Military- yours for around $12K! A set of dummies for display is looking a better option!

As a dummy you could buy one of these type.

That ebay link is for illustration. The longest one at that seller has a base of just 23mm. There is a bigger version somewhere. Seen them a couple of years ago on the web when Greg down here brought one for his bush motorcycle (Agbike) mobile HF set up (long wave? not sure of that gear - its a wire strung up at both ends and insulated from the ground). As I recall he only had RX, no TX permit, at that stage. Greg now has a Perentie FFR, I don't know what he is setting up for the HF.

Hi Jag, I thought they'd be expensive.

If you only want an 'on vehicle' display using the mounts, then just get some pvc pipe from bunning and paint OD. The place camo canvas sock over the top.

The Clark masts in the UK are better value 2nd hand, might be worth looking there.

At this stage I will be making up some dummies at there seems little chance of the Army releasing theirs.
