Top Front Shackle bushes - Chassis ones
« on: January 04, 2013, 01:21:05 PM »
Discovered something different yesterday.  The top front shackle bushes in a certain 1964 GS 88" (.....not mine....) are two piece. :P  They are rubber bushes with no steel outer however they have an inner steel bush . ??? I have not seen that style before.

Could this have been an in-service (in the field) short cut to save getting a bush removal tool in?? Or was it common practice to change to this type instead of the 'normal' pressed in steel & rubber composite bush?

Should I press in original types or were Army vehicles different from the Civilian IIA bushes? Have not seen an EMEI to reflect the change - more confusion.

G'day Ian,
Not sure about a 2A but my S1 had two-piece bushes.

I would think that the single-piece ones would be better and easier to install,

The genuine master parts book (1968) shows 2 bushes which from memory was changed (in Australia)to a single bush, for some reason the Makay silentuba number of S19 comes to mind this is for the chassis at rear of front spring.

R569746 x 4 was the original number (2 bushes per side)

Thanks,

From my S2A parts book it refers to 263354 as correct P/N, but someone has penned in 233626 :).

I think I will go with the one piece bush... They look to wear better than what was there!!

Made the bush remover/installer today. ;D So I will order new ones tomorrow....

Cheers,

Ian

The old ones were good ol fashioned rubber :), but the rust has grown in the old bushes and I caught them just in time from enlarging the hole. (one can only imagine the fun of installing a new bush housing/sleeve in a chassis.... That is a job for Dennis I think :)
Anyways I ordered new (and Correct) single piece ones today.

I too am not a fan of polyurethane bushes. Too many reasons to mention here. ;D

Ian

They look like aftermarket polybushes so not an in-service replacement.

I don't use the poly bushes IMHO because they work inside the chassis and combined with the dust/grit and water grind the chassis hole oversize.
