So far this weekend.
Helping - still removing parts from under a house up the road. Hot work, felt like what an underground miner feels like every day at work.
Shopping - got some KBS black top chassis paint and a Bosch sander and a pair of disks for my grinder. Got some old steel footlockers from a career ADF person.  [[ I have old footlockers to stash and stack parts, plus you can use them as a bench. Some have unit stencils or addresses scrawled on them. Today's lockers, from over near the AWM, had some points of interest. ]] This seller was a uh, a fit 40ish. One footlocker was marked as containing abseil gear -ropes etc. One was marked diving gear etc. Another one was marked with a unit address as Swanbourne and a regiment starting with S.  I have met my share of big NCOs in times past, and I have shook hands with footy guys like Mark Ella and Gordon Tallis amongst others. This guy was at that level, physically. Proud to have met him. Definitely the original owner.
Cleaning - hosed out the rear tub and degreased etc. Also noted that under the drab paint there are (A) tyre pressure stencils and (B) under the fuel filler a stencil says PETROL.

Ok, that was a good weekend. Very busy as usual.  :)

Visited Jye and picked up the hood. Visited Mum and Pete and Scott. Then visited Dennis' Depot and picked up the Salisbury diff and prop. Had a good chat with Dennis re ANZAC Day which is not far away. Dennis has been busy getting the Landys ready. Its a lot of work. They are a credit to Dennis and they all look great as usual.

updates:
A. Parts:
I got some Tac plate brackets from WLord as seen at Corowa, NOS.
I pulled the hood out and checked it over in the sun.
Its showing its age and thin in some tiny spots. There is one small tear to repair where a buckle/strap is mounted. It has a faint DD chevron on one side panel under the window.

It severely needs TLC with waterproofing treatment once/if the weather gets above 30deg again.

Of note regards the fact that its FFT, it has --

-the extra rear flap for a scooped tailgate plus the usual ties down section for a GS tailgate.
-the side panel that zips open to allow radio set access behind the front passenger seat. The zip panel is either side of the roll up window.

(Looking for an example photo of the zip panel now.)

B: other matters
Some more good luck, and it was out-of-the-blue. I had a good chat and two good introductions with a couple of members of our local Vietnam Veterans Assn. It wasn't organised at all, in fact I was on shift and taking in the sights at a Canberra Centenary event near the Lake/Fed parliament.

THe zip must have been a unit or post army mod as I've never seen a zip on any land rover canopy, laways happy to be proved wrong though.

Yeah we did that too. Killed a chinese wire brush.
Whilst out there we noted some bird had pecked the boxes of matches and made a mess. Later the crows were seen at the scene of the crime and they carried off a box of matches plus a new plastic packaged cupboard hinge. This means this years' nest will have a hinged entrance or something.

Meanwhile, did some more work in the studio - I gotta polish up a theme song for the "biggest new TV show" in New Zealand. Always the copy cats. MSR: "My Sheepdog Rules".

Twisted-wire brushes are the best type and throw very few bristles at the operator. Having said that, I rarely use mine anymore and prefer to use the molasses bath, even for axles,

I use the twisted wire type, and they have taken a lot of abuse in a lot of situations, and do thtow a lot less bristles.

Thx for the good advice. I did use the twisted wire type too.

Anyway, found time lately to get on with the job. Glad I did, as the weekend is wet and miserable so far.

Being out there on the patio at odd times over the previous weeks I have done some bird spotting and even hand feeding the more friendly species;

These photos show a mated pair of local differencias-salisburiatas who adopted the Landy parts and got very protective and squawky. Maybe they were thinking... well, I wonder what on earth they could be thinking actually...

Thx Cookey, how are you up there?  Its probably high tide at the entrance to the shed once again.

The diff came up looking good alright. It was primered pretty good before the black and white enamels. I didn't paint the end of the axles of course. A seal goes on there as I remember.

Maybe the bird is waiting for a chance to add some homemade moly-bond?
