Its Christmas Eve. A year ago we had been woken up in the wee hours thinking our house was on fire - but it was okay, it was next door's house. (Sorry, I'm not... it just came out like that). Its all rebuilt and in late October they moved back in.

I have been looking over the rest of the tranny parts I received from Mr Donohoe.

Here's the gearbox.

It is an E suffix.

...and here's the spares for it:

Nothing is packed with a label, I am educating myself as I go -- typical for the average Landy owner. Everything that could corrode is coated in a protective coating, maybe sort of golden syrup for all I know, it came from the sugar cane state.... Apparently it washes off with petrol and has done a good job so far.

edit - numbering the different parts in the above photo for easier reference -best guesses

You'll have a bit of a problem fitting all those spares into the one gearbox!  :o

Since Christmas I have been hunting more little bits of info at the AWM and reading books. Also joined local Vietnam Vets and organising to learn some welding skills there. As well as the Friday jam group.

Also Stevie and I went down to Corowa and really enjoyed it. Seeing all the olive drab (and Auscam) was inspiring to say the least. So much dedication by so many.
At Corowa we picked up the drivers side front guard, NOS, thanks to Terry Williams, Hugh Davis, Pedr (all SA). So we have all the bodywork now. Plus we sourced some more wiper motors, Lucas FW2. One has been earmarked for Dennis. Also a couple of M1 helmets. And a correct spade, from Richmond (another SA). The swap meet was wonderful, lucky there are ATMs at Corowa. Also attended our first REMLR AGM and met many East Coast REMLR members. Many members of KVE as well. Many had fond memories of Mal M.

Also getting into the C suffix dash checking... and today I came up with an old film photo of REMLR #024's 109in "5/66", about 1998, at Sandgate. I have the correct extinguisher bracket but the wrong dipswitch apparently. Still looking for the famous dual small gauge for between the two clock dials.

The coating is probably Cosmolene.  Been round since before WW2.
Good for long tern storage of any metal.  Even gun parts (huh)
Bit hard to find now.  Can get it from the US though.

Oh, sorry.
Well I think the evidence here is that it works well for years and years.

Scott visited over Easter and he brought down the Series 2A brass bonnet clasps from Newie -they're NOS. These clasps were part of the Graham D. parts stash and onsold by Peter H. at All 4x4. He has more. Thx Dennis for the heads up.

Also got a pick head this weekend as well as another footlocker, the oldest I've come across, and its in bronze green with 60s colour strips markings.

Update time again.

In May I brought a new 2A harness to suit via Rod, REMLR 319, in Toowoomba (didn't suit his dash). It was made by Vinwire last year and has all the info and terminal listings etc. Excellent.

Biggest news was at the Minto AFM auctions my eldest acquired a 110 GS 48-932.... and a trailer for me. NSW rego asked $487 for the number 5 to get plates! Cars used to cost that much.

The trailer number is ARN 101-148. I wanted it despite its tatty canvas with new tiedown cord because it served in SVN. It has a logbook from 1974 onward. The electrics, suspension and base plate of the trailer is pretty good order. Just needs some OD paint and maybe a refit of the little glass Lucas lights at the back...

101-148 is documented as having returned to Australia on board "HMAS" Jeparit in November 71, assigned to 4RAR Townsville - 4RAR was the last RAINF Battalion in SVN. The Aussie infantry was being withdrawn politically, "in time for Christmas" by PM J. Gorton (D Coy remained until the end of February 72) after arriving in June 65.

The trailer stayed in QLD until late 2012 when it was moved to be auctioned in Sydney.

Anybody on the forum serve in B Sqn 3/4 Cav in the late 80's? Or 2RAR in the 90's?

The AFM "TR----" number is stamped into the drawbar. On the rear crossmember the number "682" is stamped into the steel. According to the BBB ARN records 101-148 should be a 1964 produced chassis number "266", but the front ADE Maribyrnong ID plate, held on with two solid Series Land-Rover type rivets, has been removed. The rivet heads are still there. Trailer ARN 154-382, also from 1964 production, has the BBB chassis detail "682"... so did the tub from 101-148 get removed and repainted and put on the chassis of 154-382 when a batch of trailers were reconditioned in the base workshops?

:) a big day - successfully bid at AFM for Perentie FFR 50-257

Three months back the Falcon Wgn was written off in a rainy day P plate accident (no one hurt), just a big nuisance was the result. The 'Under 21' excess for my son meant a zero sum payout.
So we now have a 110 we can use to trailer 114-270 to and from some places to get work done.

http://www.graysonline.com/lot/0026-5011375/

Purchase $11,321 and onroad $1451.
Over 10 years the purchase price averages down to something close to a winter electric bill.
Looking forward to some fixups on 50-257 as we go along. But rego and insurance first.

And later, a Corowa camp with 48-932 and No 5s.
