New member - ARN 50-414 - Questions?

Hi All

I have recently purchased ARN 50-414 (Truck, Surveillance, Lightweight, Winch, MC2 - RFSV) in a private sale. 

Some of the gear had been stripped out of the vehicle (i.e. air compressor, mechanical tool kit). Previous owner swapped out the original rims/tyres for 5 wolf rims + tyres (original split rims/tyres x 5 included in sale).  Otherwise appears unmodified.  Kilometres on odometer at purchase - 74,717km.

The vehicle came with a replacement military logbook (original lost).  Log book spans 15/08/2006 @ 52,660km to 19/08/2015 @ 60,305km when it was sold at auction in Minto.  It appears from the log book that the vehicle spent the last 9 years of its military service with 1/15 R.N.S.W.L.   I would be interested if anyone might know the vehicle’s military/service history between 07/1991 and 08/2006; and/or anything else the brains trust might be able to tell me about the vehicle and it’s life in the military.

I am also curious about the ARN numbering for RFSV’s.  I understand that there were 3 prototype vehicles that had ARN’s starting with 48.   There are 29 vehicles with ARN’s starting with 50 (50-391 to 50-419).  Then there are 214 vehicles with ARN’s starting with 51 (51-581 to 51-794).  The vehicle I purchased, ARN 50-414, is in the lot of 29.  Is this just a numbering anomaly or is there a distinct reason for the different ARN prefix’s?

do not get worked up on semantics 10 Terminal regt had a surveillance veh issued to it from 21 supply bn in early 1990 as a replacement vehicle
go to remlr libary and down load Complete equipment schedule (CES) for vehicle and the Repair part guide(RPS)  for information about the correct compressor.

I know that for a fact that they were issued one  as I was part of the regt at time. just beware that most of the vehicles in particular the 110 series had a major rebuilt / midlife upgrade during the period 2000 / 2004 or at 15 year mark . I mean complete rebuilt starting from engine backwards. They just replaced everything including the speedo. It is known as repair by replacement. The log books should give you a rough indication on what was carried out in regards to maintenance but donot trust the speedo as correct milage

From what I can work out a major rebuild was undertaken in 2006 at the 15 year mark and the log of what was done is meticulous. Inspection and work carried out by JLU-V-(B). I have been advised previously that the Speedo milage is not to be relied upon but it was a starting point in an attempt to understand the vehicle’s military service history. I now understand why it is a problematic indicator.
