Army service of Land Rover Series 1
« on: January 15, 2014, 09:54:57 AM »
Should start a thread to put any Series 1 in-service photos.

I just found one under camo net with 3RAR in Korea in service at, or as, a CP (serendipity whilst searching for others stuff - the AWM dbase - i reckon the search function needs meds sometimes)

"Australian soldiers and Korean labourers in the process of building a bridge over a creek near the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), Battalion Command Post (CP). Two signs have been erected, one at the rear pointing to the 'SIGNAL OFFICE AND MESSAGE CENTRE', and one (right) saying '3BN RAR CP'. Note in the foreground the Commanding Officer's camouflaged land rover."

[There is also a cammed up CCKW in the background.]

On many of the Land Rovers used by the Australians in Korea you can see the Brit tag number on the side of the bonnet.

This one is a Brit major showing the tag.

This image is the Australian 3Bn CO doing his final parade prior to leaving the theatre.

Seems to be the same vehicle.

Ah, the little 80in, very man handleable like the jeeps.
Since it looks like an early one, I wonder if the Ruperts gave LR UK some feedback.

This one is the same bridge as Carzee's first image.

The CO's 80" again.

Wouldn't it be great to find out that the Landy is still around somewhere.

There is also an image of a Brit 80' commandeered by the Yanks with a US Corps of Engineers tac on the front of the mudguard.

I sent it to EMLRA ages ago.  Will have to see if I can find it again.
