Where to buy an LT95 input shaft for a 101
« on: September 05, 2022, 02:59:45 PM »
Hi all

I'm looking at purchasing a reco'd perentie LT95A gearbox to replace the one currently in my 101. Searching these forums I found out that the only difference I believe is the bell housing and the input shaft. The bell housing is easily fixed just swap from the current gearbox but I'm struggling to find someone who sells the input shafts. So if anyone knows of a LR parts business that supplies the input shafts it would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Steve

The RPS shows part number FRC1341, I would assume it is the same a any early V8 Range Rover or V8 110 with the LT95 transmission.

The 101 input shaft and bellhousing is unique to the 101 in being shorter than a normal LT95.  I agree the 101 part number is as you listed above but a normal LT95 input shaft is too long.

Steve, I assume you have considered just swapping the two input shafts around.

Try Anthony Johnson in Melbourne - I assume Bearman will be along before too long to point you in the right direction.

I am not sure of the availability of the input shaft these days. I did have a new one here that I purchased from LR Series in UK but I sold it to KLR who were reconditioning a 101 gearbox and needed a new input shaft. Anthony Johnston might be worth a try otherwise have a look through the UK suppliers.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I have thought about swapping the input shafts and that's an option if I can't source a new one.

I looked up LR Series and they don't have any and I've looked into most of the other English sites. I'll give AJ a call I haven't spoken to him in years since I had my first 101. I still don't know why I sold it.

Cheers

Slugbait, the 101 in your Avatar, is that yours?
Recent purchase?

I wonder if anyone has considered getting some made up?

I'd be after a bell housing. Different problem, I know.

So, I take it the one in your current box is OK and you are just looking for an extra one to convert your LT95A.

There is another alternative - take the longer input shaft to a axle maker and get them to machine it down to the 101 length, cut in new splines (or extend) and heat treat accordingly - these companies make one off axles for specialist needs so should be able to do this job but I assume would be expensive.  The other less attractive option is to simply cut the long shaft to the required length and reweld - again a specialist can do this.

I don't know Mick. I haven't got the box out I just know it needs a rebuild it's bordering on un-driveable.

Yes fc101 that is an option get the long one made to fit the 101 I'll see how the existing one in the old box looks like before I go down that path.

Steve - what was your previous 101? Was it the stretched one called the Colonel or an early one that was purchased of a guy by the name of Gary in the southern near beach suburbs of Melbourne (pic) or have I got it wrong all together?

Another Garry

Thought so - I bought my Haflinger from the same GH that you got your 101 from.  Iain Reed in Sydney bought the 101 from you and I did a couple of trips with him - including him winching me out of a bog.  Your old 101 was one of the two trial 101s used to evaluate the 101s for the Australian Army.  It had the old non burst proof locks and other early fittings - after the trials both test vehicles stayed in Australia and were converted Aust Army spec and brought into Aust Mil service.

Cheers
