110 Windscreen replacement concern
« on: January 10, 2019, 10:14:53 PM »
HI,

Thank you to everyone who has provided such great info that has got me out of trouble over the last three years I have owned my 110.

I have searched everywhere on the forum but cant seem to work out this answer and hoped someone could assist.

I have smashed my windscreen and O'Brien's via my insurance want to install a non original windscreen as the original is currently over $1100.

Is there a difference between the two, (thickness, lamination, strength etc) as we 4wd and travel a lot and I will pay the $$ difference if necessary to maintain the vehicles awesome abilities and its integrity.

Thank you again to everyone in this community.

cheers

The replacement one will be just as good as a "genuine" one if there is such a thing.

IMHO the nicer windscreen out there has a tint. Don't know who makes it but they are using them if required in the current "redo" Perenties at the auctions. (Lot 30 in the current Minto sale).

Changing the windscreen also means a new rubber surround.

It's just flat sheet.
Just about any windscreen place can cut one for you. You can even get a tinted bar at the top.
The important piece is the rubber section it is mounted in. In other cars, I have found non genuine can leak.
I guess, for the Perenties, the genuine ones do leak.

Last windscreen I had replaced on my Defender was cut by Novus who also supplied the rubber. This was quite some years ago and it is still going strong without any leaks.

Ditto to Mick and Kman - same thing and same results!  When my replacement windscreen was supplied and fitted,  the windscreen man did not have genuine but it works just fine none the less!  He even replaced the stickers!

I tried windshield replacement on my own but it's quite difficult to do that task then i called an expert who replaced the windscreen.
