Engine oil - typically mineral - something like 10/15/20w40.

What worrying things have you heard - could not be easier.

Hi Boys,

This what I used on recommendation from LR Gurus I trust without question.  I have found it improves gear changes particularly when cold and changing from 1st to 2nd.

Highly recommended.

Cheers,

Mick

The usual like don't put  a multigrade oil in as this froffs up and starves the bearings ,you must use mineral oil only , put 86/90 diff oil in as this lubricates everything , yeah so thats why i am a bit hesitance on the gear changing thingy , I think i will take your advise and put the 15/ w 40 or 15w60 in it and hope for the best , thanks for the prompt replies guys cheers TONA 51 590 .

Dont use EP 90 gear oil it will kill your gearbox by eating the phosphor bronze components - so if that diff oil you put in has an ep90 component you may be headed for trouble.

The manual says engine oil so just use that.

use engine oil as gear box has an oil pump in it and ep90 is too too thick and stuffs up the impellor

Just use the same 15/40 you have for your engine.  It's as per the Army specs.

Cheers.

I use this in all five of my LT95 gearboxes
It is a mineral oil.
Don't use the diesel variety as it has slightly different properties suited for diesel engines. The diesel variety should be used in the Isuzu motor.
