Remediation td5 gearbox extension housing damper
« on: April 04, 2021, 07:12:15 AM »
Ok,
On second gearbox rebuild, doing myself, last one mechanic lost a piece and box only lasted 20000k.
On the extension housing bottom there are three holes with a tapped thread.
There was a dampener fitted for the first five years I owned vehicle (May 2000 production vehicle).
I was always worried about clearance as the bottom of this damper looked like a large shock absorber base and protruded a little below the protection bar going between chassis rails. It was a cast part silver in colour from triangle bolt pattern then metal discs and rubber discs...wish had a bloody photo!!
Landrover aust has no record, in fact it has no record of what gearbox was fitted to my vin.
I have no photo as thought this was standard part (my first landie!) apparently it could be any part of any vehicle landrover/jaguar ever made which is not helpful.
Does anyone have remediation vehicle with this fitted?
Has anyone seen this on ANY other vehicle or piece of military kit?

If no member here has one i would contact KLR automotive in Sydney or Landybitz. The former has seen a fair few in their service book. Justin at LBitz owns or owned one of the redmediation TDs. I recall another one on instagram as well.

Ok, i've been sent some information about this.

As far as he was aware, the vehicles didn't have the damper fitted from new but may have been retrofitted (under warranty or service complaint). The part in question was fitted to Discovery 2 and due to commonality is retrofittable to Defender.

Once the 110s were built up from civilian spec and once delivered Defence decided that they would farm maintenance and servicing out to the Land Rover Dealer network, so LR didn't have much to do with them after that.

What is your ARN?? I have a list of serial numbers of parts fitted to each of the 33 so I can let you know yours?
