Workshop platform

I was recently given the platform off the back of a series 2A RAEME Workshop truck which had been converted years ago to a flat tray ute. I plan to restore as a trailer version to go with my own 2A workshop.

After removal of rotted plywood, framing, bolts & rivets the rear steel framing was found to be scrap having extensive rust and numerous repairs over the years.

I’m in the process of making up a new durable rear frame which should be a bit stronger than original but almost identical.

This platform was fitted with the timber bedstrips which were fitted to the office variant. Not sure if I will replace the timbers or not.

I will save the canopy & apron clips etc off this rear panel, as well as the side plates and graft them on to some new hollow section steel square beam

I had some lengths of good bedstrip material from a civvi series 3 109 I wrecked out years ago, so cutting up replacement bedstrips for the platform was simple enough...

This data plate came with some loose platform parts at the same time.

Not certain if it’s off this particular platform but it will do for now.

I intend fitting this restored platform to a spare No5 box trailer frame I had on hand so will probably use it’s Vin for registration purposes.

I have several options on how to set this whole trailer up once completed;

Generator trailer with 2x gensets and fuel jerrycans,

Mobile workshop with my correct lathe, drill, grinder, vice and tool boxes

Field Office or

Binned stores

It's fitting in nicely between other projects.

So far looks lke it should come up well as it's not a concourse restoration, just a re-commissioning type of thing

Not a lot of progress to report so far due to weather and other priorities, but I managed to find some suitable canopy hooks to replace the many broken off originals.

In the past I had used the slightly larger type shown in the bottom right hand corner, however to use these I had to drill new holes etcs. Not ideal.

The bew shiny ones are a close fit and are very inexpensive.

The old broken ones, top right, are not repairable.
