IIa GS ARN 178-334
« on: November 26, 2020, 05:53:40 PM »
I purchased this vehicle years ago and have been working on it when time/finance permits.

I've had problems hosting pictures. Photobucket held me to ransom and 1000's of pictures were removed from several forums then I moved to Flicker and they implemented 1000 for free so I had to trim the number of photos hosted.

Here it is when collected

2a GS 1 by Colin Radley, on Flickr

Axles & brakes have been overhauled, radiator re-cored, new canopy from Restless Rover, wings painted, doors repaired & repainted, new doortops.
It came with the hood bows and the back is still full of spare parts from when collected 9 years ago !

Thread on AULRO is here.

Seem to have a problem if more than one photo linked, here's another.

Nice to have you back Colin.

It is possible to use REMLR as the host for photos, which eliminates the ransom problems. It has been a while since I have posted a photo but I remember it being a simple process,

Good to see another 2A project on here Colin,

Looking forward to seeing it come together, is it running yet?

I’m getting close to finishing my 68 GS 109, are you still chasing a front blackout light?

Cheers,

Mike.

Hi Mike,

It's been running the whole time I've had it, drove onto the trailer when collected.
Oil pressure is a bit low so I might drop the sump & check the big end shells.

I moved it out of the shed a couple of weeks ago for a clean. No floor panels and wiring taped up for the front lights !
Just fitted two new headlights because the silvering on the originals was past it's best.

Need to get some foam cut for the rear seats, the bases are missing. As these seem to be held in place by a couple of tapes I guess they get lost or blow away when traveling.....

Yes, I'm still looking for a front blackout light. I could fit a blanking plate and just the 'peak' so it looks like it's there.

Colin

Sounds good Colin, should be on the road soon!

The seat cushions are probably gathering dust in someone’s shed, they stay fairly secure when the seats are folded up and secured with the strap..

I had a look in the parts department, would this be of any use? It’s all there, just needs a bit of restoration.

Cheers,

Mike.

Thanks Mike,
I've sent you a PM.

Removed the front bumper and started stripping layers of paint.
Under several layers of olive drab and white (outer edges of bumper) there was a dent that had been attacked with a grinder/sander. Must have been done in service.
I have an anvil, some steel bars and a big hammer so I'll try and remove some of the dent before prepping for paint.

No worries Colin,

Reply sent.

I feel your pain on the multiple layers of paint, seems like a task confined to the Series Vehicles!

Some of my panels had at least 6 coats of flaking poor condition olive drab.

I did find that the commercial grade paint stripper from Protec works fairly well, although it still requires a few applications to get down to the aluminium.

Once it’s all gone though, very satisfying to only have a couple of good coats of new paint!

The outer edges of the bumper, the rear  bumpers and the rear diff pan were painted white in service, although they left the factory in olive drab / black.

Cheers,

Mike.

My apologies, this slipped my mind completely.

I’ll get it into the mail to you this morning.

Decided to clear out the back of the IIa last weekend, I've only owned it for 13 years !

Getting ready to install 8 lap belts in the rear and need to raise the upper mounts for the driver & passenger.

The cover plates under the driver & passenger seats are missing.
Looks like they screw down and have a hole for the dipstick to pass through.

Is there a grommet around the dipstick body ?
