1/2 ton workshop trailers
« on: August 24, 2019, 04:01:49 PM »
I am new to the forum though I have viewed the info for ages and like what I see.
I have an Ex NZ Army LWB 1967 Series 2A with a Tooley welder between the front seats, anyone know anything about who the Tooley company is and where they were?
I am building a workshop body for my LR Trailer (No5) as steel tub was beyond recovery.
The workshop bodies fitted to these trailers, are they ex LR workshop bodies re-purposed to trailers?
If so how were they modified to fit the trailers?
Is the entire body made from aluminium except the benchtops of course?
What is the profile of front and rear cross members of the body? Are they box section with tag welded onto the side to support floor panels?

Keep the wheels rolling

i bought dozens of the Aust workshop trailers when they were sold, mainly because at the price they had two new tyres and wheels...No one wanted them ,as they were just on the limit for brakes in Qld,so theoretically, you couldnt carry anything in  them.......and the army had stripped all the towrings off them......Not a big deal in those days,I just fabricated a standard coupling to fit,.....All i remeber about them is they were made by the Govt Aircraft Factory...(GAF)......i dont thing there was a great deal of ally either ,more steel and plywood........initially ,I couldnt sell them, but after all the wheels and tyres were gone, there was interest in them....maybe couple of years later..........The frame was a central steel tube, with a couple of steel crossmembers, flange at top folded full width, floor bolted on .

Made by the armament factories, mostly aluminium sheeting and lockers on the steel No.5 trailer chassis. Some have shock absorbers installed as well.

17mm hw formply is just about perfect for renewing the benchtops.

The trailer deck and the LR rear deck on the workshop are the same AFAIK.

All the drawings and plenty of photos/manuals online in the trailer section and in the library @ remlr.com (link on this page above upper right under "news").
