Inter 6x6 Workshop
« on: October 05, 2012, 10:59:45 AM »
One of these was held on charge to an ARES unit here in Perth for a long time, before being passed to the Army Museum of WA.

Apparently, they no longer have a use for it and it is intended to auction it at the bi-annual Legacy Militaria Auction on Sunday 28 Oct.

The following detail is available at this stage:

Army Museum of WA (AMWA) de-accessioned vehicle to be sold at the October 2012 Legacy Militaria Auction .

Vietnam era International RAEME Workshop truck (5 tonne, 6x6). The Workshop modification does not come with any RAEME equipment. Requires some restoration.

This will be offered at 12 Noon Sunday 28 October

Inspection prior to auction at the AMWA, Artillery Barracks, Burt Street, Fremantle by appointment is essential.

By appointment for Thursday, Friday or Saturday via Maj. Henry Fijolek, Manager, AMWA on 0402 456 613

or

Sunday via Capt. Wayne Gardiner, Assistant Manager, AMWA on 0418 926 491

10am to 3pm on those days.

The Legacy auction will be held in the Milton Isbister Pavilion, Claremont Showgrounds (Gate 8), on Sunday 28th October.  Phone bids will be accepted from anyone who can’t attend in person – you can call 0449 238589 to register.

It is a big beast.

The rear body was apparently first installed on a Blitz, then a Studebaker and ended up here on the Mk 5.  From memory there are a lot of very recognisable Blitz fittings on the body.

The pictures above were taken some years ago, so they might not accurately represent the vehicle as it is now.

G'day Jack

The Inter has suffered from the elements lately. Softskin vehicles at the museum need to be attended to on a monthly basis to keep rust at bay.

The first photo was taken in December 2010 at the museum.

The second photo was in January 2008 whilst the truck was in storage.

This Inter would be a superb display if restored and kitted out with it's original equipment :)

Out at the SME (AAMME) we have a machine shop module, this is a large box similar to a 20 shipping container, designed to fit on the tray of the 4X4 or 6X6 inter.  The 2 sides and one end are removable and inside, a 3 phase capstan lathe and if I remember correctly also a mill.

Cant take any piccys ATM as the workshop its installed in has been condemned by the Army RAT assessors because of asbestos.
