I have some info about the starters for sale purporting to be OEM.

I also have a spare starter here from AFM that is awaiting a repair to the solenoid copper bolt (thread is stripped by overtightening). What is wrong with yours?

From about '79 to '98 the 4BD1 was made by the Japanese engines produced. incl. electric parts starter and alternators.

Since then the 4BD1 is made by the Chinese auto manuf. under licence... and so are the electrics.  The chinese made units are available in Sydney $526 after discount at Spares Pro ph 02 4228 1250

"Nikko NXS609" with 3 years warranty.
