Sort of.

It's hard to make out, but it's on the clear part of the chassis rail between the winch guide plate and the support frame for the cab, directly behind the muffler mount in this pic.

It will start with 6X6.

 Thanks for the info.
Im a bit confused and hope someone may be able to help.
I bought a Mark 3 and a F1 from the same Rural Fire Service.
The Mark 3 has the Cencus number 6302
Engine Number #ADEV225344
Chassis # 4x4-6
Looking up the Census info it says the Engine was replaced 1980.

All that makes sense, but the 6x6 F1 Has not got a identification plate.
The Engine Number is exactly the same as in the Mark #3 , 4x4  .#ADEV225344
How could that be,could the Fire service have replaced both engines at the same time?
The other problem is all I can find for the Chassis # is C 15.

The Fire Service I purchased the F1 from thought it was a 1969 model.

Any help with ideas on these two same engine numbers appreciated.

Where are you reading the engine numbers from on the trucks? Those don't look like engine numbers. I think they are the army parts catalogue number for the engines.
Engine numbers start with AGD and then will be 282 for the MK3 & 4's and 283 for the 6x6's, unless they have had an upgrade/swap.

The engine number is stamped on the metal ledge on the passenger's side of the engine, where the oil filter housing and oil cooler pipes join the block.

Pretty crappy picture. The round thing with the slot across it under that little pipe is the cover screw for the pressure bypass ball. It screws into the block that has the 2 oil hoses attached underneath that go to the oil cooler radiator.

Looking at the list in the REMLR library, your engine number on the MK3 should be AGD282.9918, unless it has been changed again. The original engine was AGD282.7407.
It was disposed of by the army on 22.09.1982.

That's a very early chassis number. Your ARN, Army Registration Number, was 107-109.
As a comparison, my MK3 is 170-952 with chassis number 771.

Now, as for your F1, are you really certain you are looking in the right place? The chassis number should start with 6X6.
You may need to clean the paint back with a wire wheel or similar.
If you can find the engine number, we can possibly work back from there.

 Thanks,
 Great info.
Im looking at exactly the same area on the 6x6 Chassis ,the Paint has been removed before by someone and we have cleaned the
area up again and thats all that we can locate.
I assume the F1 Chassis # is in the same place as the mark #3 ?

The engine numbers are both In the area you described "on the metal ledge on the passenger's side of the engine, where the oil filter housing and oil cooler pipes join the block"
But they are cast raised numbers so sounds Like I need to scrape and clean more for stamped numbers.
 Thanks for the help.

Ok, I went out to see if I could get better pics, but my good camera is at work.
My torch and a little point-and-shoot camera will have to do for now. :)

The first pic is the 6x6. It is actually clearer in the pic than to my eyes. It's on 3 lines. ADE, 6X6, 3588.

The second pic is the MK3. Just 1 line. 4X4-771.

Both are marked in the same place. That angled metal thing to the left of the numbers is the the plate with the front winch rollers attached.

The pic of the engine number came out much clearer.

I can't get into the cab of the 6x6 to get a better pic as its full of ground mats, engine cowling and tools, but the numbers were in exactly the same place, just with more paint over them.

I wonder if your C 15 is actually a poorly stamped 6 15? The 6 being part of 6X6.

Oh, not sure if yours is the same, but the ID plate on my MK3 is actually on the strut across the front of the radiator, at the top. Have to lift the bonnet to see it.
The F1 plate was screwed to the dash above the engine cowling, I think. If yours are missing, its a bit odd. That's like removing the compliance/VIN plate off a modern vehicle.

You have probably already found these manuals, but just in case, http://remlr.com/forum/index.php?topic=5176.0
Hope some of this helps.

Greg.

 Thanks Greg,
 Great info.
Yes those details all match up for my Mark 3.

The F1 is still been tricky.

 The engine # is 283.02635.
In the records this number does not show up but there are two identical Engine numbers in fairly close ARN numbers that are one digit out.
Im guessing there may have been a Typo when the information was entered.

So Im thinking it is one of these Trucks:
ARN 171-682
or ARN  172-701 ,On the information given to me by the Fire Brigade who thought the truck was a 1968 or 1969 model Im thinking its more likely this one.
Given the Chassis number is also not readable and this one had a replacement chassis Im wondering if the replacement was never punched correctly??

Not sure what list you are using.
The REMLR list shows engine number 283.02635 as being fitted to 174-918. Chassis number 2938. Built 1969.

The link to the Inter numbers in the REMLR library is http://www.remlr.com/Army-Inter/accoarn.html

We know there are a few mistakes in the ARN list, but it is still a good way to confirm things or at least point you in the right direction.

Going to be interesting to see if it matches your chassis number.

Yeah, it can be a bit hard to see if its had a few coats of paint over the years.
One I looked at down Hobart a few years back was so faint, I had to rub some fine clay across the area and slowly brush it off until I could make out the start of the numbers.
It's not the easiest place to get into, if the muffler is fitted.
