I'm happy to say that after some delay (purely on my part) the 2a should be on its way to the UK very soon, arriving here in late June or early July.

My current plan is after a good inspection to change all fluids, hoses and the clutch slave and master cylinders so it's mobile, then carry out the work to get it roadworthy, so rear cross member, bulkhead repair, lights, New tyres.

I'm hopeful that it won't require a total restoration, but instead I can replace the few missing or incorrect parts, possible respray it if the external paint is not original and treat the underside with preservative.

More updates in due course once it arrives!.

Quick question for others with an early 2a. Is the staple which attaches the windscreen securing strap to the bonnet ("Joe coolin") the same as those on the rear of the tub, or different?.

Unfortunately I cannot confirm that the ones you ask about are the same but generally speaking, the loops fitted to LRs are for a common width of webbing strap.

If you're after a replacement for a missing one you can google "footman loop" to see what is available.

Yes, same loop. The webbing buckle is metal, an older design too.

Dugite, Carzee thanks both for your replies. I have a replacement loop from a scrap 63 rear tub, just need the strap, or at least the correct buckle so I can get the strap made.

Most of those straps were taken off in service, so I wouldn't get too stressed.

Thanks FFR man. I will probably refit the loop and strap as 112-498 will eventually be displayed alongside my British Army 63 88" FFR and I'd like to show the differences between them.

112-498 finally began its journey to the UK today, and should arrive on or around the 10th of July.

Hi Scott,

Arrival is supposed to be July 10th and customs clearance should be a few days at most. I've already submitted the customs paperwork and arranged transport to my place so hopefully there won't be any major issues (famous last words!).

The next step will be getting it registered, and since the DVLA have been getting awkward lately about CKD vehicles that have been re-imported this could take longer than the shipping!.

Know what you mean Dennis! The delay was partly on my part, but then the shipping company took ages to arrange collection from the seller (who has been very good about storing it) but it's finally on it's way!.

I will message you about those parts we discussed once it arrives, if that's okay? It's not missing much so hopefully won't take much to be complete and correct.

The 'staple' for the strap is called a 'Footman Loop'. 

You can find plenty advertised in various sizes under that name, so you should have no trouble finding a match once you have made accurate measurements of the existing loop at the back.

Cheaper to search for 'Breaching staple' (he's in England and it is a Pommie vehicle ....) and get one locally.
