Crump & Cornish
« on: December 18, 2017, 09:56:18 AM »
Hi All,

Firstly - thanks to everyone on this forum for all of the help so far. It is a great source of information.

I have started work on my C&C trailer, and I've discovered that it doesn't have drum shoes on it.. I had read all of the threads on here, and there doesn't seem to be a definitive answer on where/how to purchase replacement shoes.

I did read in the thread "Light braked trailer parts" that the shoes could either be 11" (Bendix) or 12" (Ford) - but following the links to the web pages, they don't look like the backing plates/master cylinders that I have... :(

I've also had a look at the Cebco web-page, but these don't look correct either.

So I have tried.. Multiple times.

How do I get a hold of the RPS "02174 - 1 Ton, 2 wheeled Trailer (Crump and Cornish)" ??

I can see that it is in the Library, but it's not currently downloadable.

I know that I'm not the only person chasing shoes - I would be happy to start a new thread with all of the information, once I have it at hand!

Cheers,
GG.

PS - Here is a picture that I took yesterday:

Tom, I'm printing out a copy of the RPS for you.

Brakes are 12". Shoes are E3006.
A bit of discussion here:

There are also some other treads on here.

Thanks Mick... I think that I am also going to need to replace the Slave Cylinders... Mine are stuffed (badly corroded) and do not have the rods that protrude from the cylinder across to the brake shoe.. Nor do I have any of the springs... Not sure how I will get the springs either..

Do you have a photograph of how the hand brake cable attaches?

One step forward - 2 steps back!  :(

Cheers,
GG.

Well, thanks to GG, we have movement.

" I want my Crump & Cornish registered at any cost! ", he said to me. (Or words to that effect.)
Because I still haven't been able to source a PBR T122-9 (LH & RH) for mine, It was decided to but a new assembly that can be machined to fit. I went to a trailer parts supplier, and here's the important thing, with product knowledge.
An assembly was ordered, paid for and collected.

As you can see, the centre hole needs enlarging and the four mounting holes will need to be drilled. It's doable.
Feel free to advise methods to achieve this.

Can your new mechanism be assembled onto your old backing plate?

The backing plates and brake hardware are finally fitted.
Unfortunately, the new brake cable was a little short but usable.

Just an update.

The new jockey wheel should be finished next week.
Or the week after.

Does anyone know what torque the hub nut gets tightened to?

Hi Mick, In my experience you tighten the hub nut up until firm and the wheel has no play whasoever, then back it off a "Tad" (Metric) or a "Dib" Imperial and the wheel should spin freely with absolutely no lateral movement at all.  Check after it's first run for a few Km for play and heat, then at 80 kph again for heat - the temperature should be universal across the hub, wheel and axle.  If loaded and you have been doing a bit of braking, the drum will be warmer.  Love your work.
