No.5 Mounting plate
« on: September 23, 2017, 01:18:53 PM »

Hi all,

I need to pick up a No.5 from the auction house.

A have the pintle in my shed but not sure about the mounting plate for the landrover.

Are these available from a trailer shop?

I have a standard landrover drop late for a towball but it may sit the pintle too low.

Any advice will be helpful.

cheers

Jamie

You can't bolt the pintle on the rear crossmember?
For the pintle, I use a Hayman Reese pintle adaptor. (see attached)

Oh, what are you doing for lights? Trailer board?
Don't cut the 12 pin plug off. Take a reasonable length of trailer cable with your type of plug already attached and wire it into the terminal strip which should be under the tub towards the back if the trailer.

Thanks Mick,

Yes a trailer board is the home travel solution.

I will check today but the mounting holes do not line up with the crossmember holes,  the existing plate for the tow ball will place the pintle below the crossmember.  SIIa GS for context.

I should be okay for one journey and will find a solution later.

Hi Jamie,
I think I know what you need.
on my series 3 the drop down plate for the towball has the holes for the pintle at the top, but to fit it you need to remove the plate, bolt on the pintle and then bolt the plate back on using longer high tensile bolts and really thick washers (due to the bolt heads)  however to use the ball you need the pinthe off. my fix was to weld the heads of the pintle bolts in place for easy removal of the pintle when i needed the ball.

Hope that made sense,

**A quick trip to the shed reveals that i drilled the mounting holes myself as my spare lacks the holes. so not entirely sure where i got the idea / reference**

Nick, I will be doing the plate mod as you have suggested to bring the pintle up to the middle of the rear cross member.
